Its no real secret that nicotine is addictive, in fact many say you are addicted even just 1 cigarette. For this reason, many smokers start to smoke more and more and eventually become chain smokers. There is not one smoker out there who can claim that they do not know the risks that are associated with smoking, yet they still go on with their dangerous addiction. A great many people who now suffer the horrible consequences of being a chain smoker. These consequences include chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease and lung cancer at their worst and a shortness of breath, damaging all your insides and generally being unwell at its 'best'. It is a stark reality that many smokers do not take seriously the risk of smoking until they become seriously ill, and by then it is too late.

Of course this is not the case for everyone and there will be people reading this that have already given up or are considering give up smoking - well done! Your main weapon against smoking is wanting to stop - once you truly want to stop being a smoker you are on your first step to becoming smoke free. Quite honestly it is very easy to start smoking but very hard to stop. However it is not impossible, no one will tell you that it is easy to give up - but it can be done!!!

Once you have decided you want to embark on the journey of being a non smoker, the first thing to do is to consult with a medical professional. As well as offering you practical hints and tips they can also check your state of health and give you a personalised quit smoking plan, Also once you have a medical professional is on board they can monitor your on going progress and any chance of a relapse get debunked fast enough.

Whether you decide to consult a medical professional or not the one thing you that you do need is determination. You must want to be a non smoker! You can also consider using nicotine patches of gum. There are also a number of support groups that will be able to help such as Nicotine Anonymous. Private counselling can also be used. Of course there also alternative therapies and pills you can use but you must make sure you do your research fully and learn everything you can about these options before you decide to use any of these methods.

I am happy to say that after being virtually chain smokers my husband and myself both gave up smoking 12 years or more ago!

    Quitting is very difficult. One thing that is often overlooked is that smoking is both a physical and mental addiction. Successful smoking cessation programs must address both types of addiction or there is a high relapse rate. Simply addressing the physical cravings is not enough to insure lasting success.
