Stop Smoking - The Battle to Beat Nicotine!

Written by V Pender on 4/18/2009

Why is it so hard to stop smoking? What can you do to help you win your battle to beat your nicotine addiction? The first thing you must embrace is that you are both mentally and physically dependent on the nicotine and the need to smoke. Most smokers become tolerant to nicotine levels over time. They gradually increase the number of cigarettes inhaled each day just to satisfy their need. The American Cancer Society confirms that nicotine is as addictive to a smoker as heroin and cocaine are to an addict.

One method to quit smoking that has proven more successful than going "cold turkey" is utilizing nicotine replacement. Just as a heroin addict will usually require methadone to stave off withdrawal, there are also unpleasant symptoms with a nicotine addiction. These symptoms can include dizziness, headache, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression and irritability. A nicotine substitute will assist in alleviating these indicators of withdrawal, which usually commence shortly after having the last cigarette and can continue for several days.

Even with nicotine replacement therapies, many smokers do not experience success with their first attempts to quit smoking. Often additional assistance, such as a support group or network of family and friends are required. Many agencies, like the American Cancer Society or Nicotine Anonymous groups provide free support groups as well as hot lines to call when the urge to smoke strikes. Although some people will be successful with a nicotine substitute alone, most will require support to break the mental bondage of their nicotine addiction.

It doesn't matter how many times it takes you to stop smoking, the crucial issue is win back your health. Within twenty minutes of having your last cigarette, your blood pressure and heart rate drop. The carbon monoxide levels in your bloodstream reduce in less than twelve hours after your last cigarette. Your overall health improves daily till after one year of abstinence from your nicotine addiction, your risk of coronary disease has dropped 50%. This alone is worth winning in your battle to end your smoking habit.

Stop Smoking Gum - Does it Work?

Written by V Pender on 4/18/2009

People smoke for different reasons, but the one thing all smokers have in common is once they get started, it is very difficult to stop.

One of the most successful products on the market to help people quit is stop smoking gum. This gum provides a stream of nicotine that is absorbed directly into a person's system as they chew it. The gum can be chewed throughout the day, usually with a max of about 20 pieces in any given day. The gum can be a very discrete way for someone to attempt to quit. It also comes in different flavors just like any other type of gum might.

Another benefit of stop smoking gum is that it provides a person with that needed oral fixation that they might be missing from not smoking. Often times, people that are addicted to smoking are also addicted to constantly having something in their mouth. They get used to it and can feel jittery or nervous without it.

Chewing the gum provides their mouth with that much needed movement. The gum is also not a noticeable intervention to a person's friends and family. After all, many people chew gum on a regular basis. This can help a person avoid any feelings of embarrassment about quitting. It can also help avoid any unwanted conversations about how their attempt to quit is working.

When someone chooses a stop smoking gum as their method to help them quit, they need to remember that the gum is just a tool. It is not going to magically make them quit. Self-discipline is probably the strongest weapon in the fight to quit smoking. The gum is a nice ally because you can control when and where you chew it. A typical piece of gum will take about 20 - 30 minutes of chewing to release all of the nicotine into the bloodstream. The gum can also be bought in different doses.

For most of the nicotine gum on the market, the goal is to help a person quit in 12-16 weeks, although there are some programs that guarantee you will quit in 7 days that yield impressive results with today's increasing health technology.

A very positive step toward quitting smoking is for a person to choose a stop smoking gum to help them. The biggest thing that person needs, however, is not the gum. It is the support of their friends and family members that will enable them to complete their road to quitting. That support system will also help them avoid a relapse into their smoking habit. It is one thing to quit, and another thing to make it a life long commitment.

Part of the addiction to cigarettes is the physical addictions. There are also the emotional addictions to smoking that must be dealt with as well. It is for this reason that when buying a stop smoking gum kit, make sure it comes with an audio CD as well. This will maximize your chances of quitting since "both sides" of the addiction will be taken care of.

A Stop Smoking Product to Breathe Again

Written by V Pender on 4/16/2009

Why do people smoke?

For some it is a social activity that started when they were younger and turned into an addiction. For others, it is a stress reliever that started out small and turned into a pack a day habit. Whatever a person's reason for smoking, there is a stop smoking product out there that can help them quit. Most of these products work the same way...

They release a stream of nicotine into a person's blood stream in an attempt to ween them off their use of cigarettes. Many of the products available have been scientifically proven to help people quit.

What are the benefits of quitting? A prolonged healthier life would be the main reason. There is no guarantee as to how long anyone is going to live, but using a stop smoking product to help a person quit does increase their chances of avoiding smoking related illnesses.

One such product on the market is the nicotine lozenge. Much like a cough drop, these lozenges are placed between the teeth and cheek and they are sucked on for about 30 minutes. As they are sucked on, the nicotine is slowly released into the body. These can be kept with a person throughout the day so they can take one whenever they feel the urge to smoke coming on. With most of these lozenges, the goal is to help a person quit within about 12 weeks.

Another stop smoking product is the nicotine inhaler. One of the biggest differences in this type of product is that it requires a prescription. The inhaler is used much like a cigarette. A person takes a puff of the inhaler, holds the nicotine vapor in their mouth for a few seconds and then blows it out. Not only does this help with the smoking cravings, but it also gives people that needed smoking like activity. It can make people feel like they are still smoking without all of the negative side effects.

Also, other successful quit smoking products on the market today have become increasingly popular that make no use of gum, patches, or pills...

Stop smoking products that do not require the use of drugs have recently been proven to be EXTREMELY effective as well since you're no longer requiring any type of dependence with these types of programs.

With any stop smoking product, it is important to consult with your doctor about which one might be right for you. As mentioned above, most of the products work in a similar manner, but all of them fit differently with different people.

For one person, the lozenge might be right, for others it might be gum or a patch. An astonishing amount of data has also recently blossomed over the use of programs that require no gum, patches, or pills. The bottom line for all of the products is to find one that does work from a credible source and use it to help a person improve their quality of life.

Hi, I'm Lou Copperton and I wrote this article. I hope you now have a better understanding of how a stop smoking product can help you quit for good. It is my goal to provide quality information for my readers now that I have been a non-smoker for years myself.

Stop Smoking Hypnotherapy and How it Works

Written by V Pender on 4/16/2009

Hypnotherapy is to Stop-Smoking as Door is to Frame, as Chair is to Table. Mention hypnotherapy to most people, and they will think of smoking cessation. Mention giving up smoking naturally to most people, and they will think of hypnotherapy.

But what is hypnotherapy?

Well, hypnotherapy is hypnosis plus therapy.

In the hypnosis part, you go into a state of relaxation that varies from a light relaxation to a deeper half-asleep half-awake state of trance. At the end, you awaken fully, feeling relaxed and refreshed.

In the therapy part, various techniques are used to achieve the desired outcome. These days techniques like NLP and EFT are so advanced and so effective, they are often used by hypnotherapists without the hypnosis part!

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It utilises the relationship between how we think, how we communicate, and our feelings and behaviour.

NLP works a bit like this: You may be starting with thinking your glass is half-empty and anesthetising your sense of emptyness with cigarettes. Then you may be coming out of the hypnotherapist's delighted that your glass is half-full and so fulfilled, the desire to smoke has gone.

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It uses the principle that the cause of all negative emotions (and therefore behaviour) is a disruption in the body's energy system.

EFT works a bit like this: You may be starting with feeling a bit bad without a cigarette, due to various negative emotions stored in your body as "energy". Then you may be coming out of the hypnotherapist's feeling so peaceful and calm, the desire to smoke has gone.

Most people have the impression that stop smoking hypnotherapy consists of going into the hypnotherapist's, lying down, becoming unconscious, and walking out a totally different person. Popular television and theatre programs, especially in the past, do nothing to dispel this view. Subjects are chosen for the show that look unconscious when they are hypnotised, giving the popular illusion of a state of deep sleep. Also highly suggestible subjects are chosen. Most modern techniques are so good, there is no need for this suggestibility. Certainly only a very small percentage of hypnosis subjects go into a sleep-like trance, maybe 4%!

So when you go to your hypnotherapist to give up smoking, you may be pleasantly surprised to remain awake and become free from cravings. If you have already made an appointment, it is good to print out this article and read it before you attend to allay any fears should this be your first time. And most of all, congratulate yourself for making the decision to be free!

Easiest Ways to Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 4/14/2009

His friends included both smokers and non-smoker. And interestingly, though he liked his non-smoker friends better than most of his smoker friend, he still ended up spending a lot more time with the smokers. It was simply because most of their free time between court appearances was spent together smoking. And, of course, his non-smoking friends would keep advising - rather pressing him - to quit smoking, as it did no good at all. So, finally Advocate Mitra decided to bid adieu to smoking having gone through a list of risks that smoking entailed supplied by one of his close, non-smoking friends. This friend of Advocate Mitra did not stop at that but followed up the e-mailed list with a link to a YouTube video demonstrating the ill effects of smoking in gory detail. A terrified Advocate Mitra took the advice, but on the very first non-smoking day he realized that there were greater challenges ahead. To let go of unhealthy habits is not cakewalk, they tend to stick to one like leeches.

How to quit

Even the smokers know as well, if not better, that smoking is extremely perilous and the habit, therefore, must be dropped at the earliest. But as any smoker would point out, it is easier said than done for the reason that the pull of the cancer stick is hard to resist and it takes a lot of energy to keep off it. Therefore, most of the time people just don't feel like fighting as hard as they actually need to. And this why people resume smoking even after having quit. So quitting alone would not suffice. Quitting and stay off cigarette permanently is the only way.

Among the things that one could try when one gets the urge to smoke is to deep-breathe the urge out; meaning that you concentrate on controlled breathing by gradually inhaling till your lungs could take no more air and then exhaling the whole of it at the same slow rate. Imagine that all the knotted tension between you is leaving your body with the exhales air. This would take your attention off the urge to smoke and the urge would subside. Remember, the urge to smoke does not last for a long time. It hits one and within five or ten minutes subsides unless one pays attention to it. If for that duration you could keep the thoughts of smoking from entering your mind, you will have one a crucial battle in the war against smoking addiction. The next urge to smoke would come after a longer interval and this way the intervals would start increasing till the time you are completely off smoking.

Another thing that you need to do is stay away from sugar, alcohol and coffee, as these have been found to feed one's craving for a smoke. Also, cut down you intake of calories, as in absence of your regular nicotine dose, you metabolic rate would take a dip briefly because of which you might also gain some weight. It is, therefore, important that you are cautious about what you eat.

It would not be easy to stay away from smoking and those who have successfully quit smoking would tell you that a chewing substitute was indeed invaluable. So, you can try chewing gum or some other such substitute that is not harmful. However, do not overdo it. In most cases one wouldn't need the assistance of this alternative substance to stay off cigarettes.

Exercising has also been found to be extremely helpful. One reason could be that it keeps one's focus off cigarettes, which are unhealthy, and on exercising, which is very good for health. Therefore, one sees oneself going from an unhealthy choice to a very healthy life. That makes one feel good about oneself and boosts one's morale even further to stay off smoking. Exercise is also known to induce feeling of wellbeing, which certainly goes a long way in keep the cigarettes at bay. Try to involve yourself in exercising and do not just pass time in the gym. With increasing involvement in exercising your resolve to quit would get firmer and stronger.

Eating healthy food like fruits, raw vegetables and salads is also helpful because it would make you feel healthy and fitter, and would assist you in fighting back whenever the desire to smoke hits you.

You can also find an interesting hobby for yourself. This would keep you occupied and you would not feel like strolling out for a smoke like you always did. A greater involvement with work might also help but the chances are limited by the fact that you worked only as hard earlier also. So, the sense of change and novelty is not powerful enough. However, together with other things mentioned above, a greater involvement with work might also be helpful.

You need to keep affirming to yourself that you intend to quit and there is nothing that you would allow to come in the way. This might sound childish but you must repeat it to yourself aloud a few times everyday. This helps keeping the resolve from falling apart. Your determination is your greatest weapon. So, you need to keep it going for you at all times. Bear in mind that if you had to abort the attempt to quit midway, it would take a far greater amount of willpower to make a second attempt because then you'll also be fighting with self-doubt engendered by past failure. Once you start the process of quitting, you must follow it till the very end. And you must remind yourself of this everyday without fail. This would also help you fight the self-image of smoker that you might have subconsciously formed in your mind. Since you see yourself as a smoker, it gets difficult for you to quit. And this happens with all smokers.

You would eventually succeed in quitting. But that is not the end of the story. Now, you would need to keep off cigarette and that could be another challenge. Smokers tend to experience a very strong urge to smoke when either they are very happy or very sad. If things don't go well and one feels hopeless, the one who was previously a smoker might wish to smoke 'just one cigarette', and that's the trapdoor. Never fall for it because if you do, the entire process of getting habituated, then addicted and then quitting starts again. And quitting would be more difficult the second time.

If you can stand with the same friends that you smoked with at the same place where you smoked without smoking and without having to doggedly fight the urge to smoke, it indicates that you have successfully left the cancer stick behind, which also means that there is healthy life ahead for you.

How to Quit Smoking in 3 Quick & Easy Steps - Guaranteed!

Written by V Pender on 4/14/2009

It's true...

Knowing how to quit smoking doesn't have to be this long, expensive and miserable experience most smokers have come to accept. In fact, just the opposite is true. Before we begin however, we must understand a little about human psychology. Specifically, how we deal with the twin emotional forces that drive our lives - pain and pleasure.

Here's how it works. Everything we do (or don't do) is in response to our desire to avoid pain or our desire to gain pleasure. Pain pushes us away from something and pleasure pulls us toward something. Pain is the more powerful of the two. Therefore, we will do far more to avoid pain than we ever will to gain pleasure. And learning to master these emotions, is the secret to quitting smoking.

Here's How This Applies To Quitting Smoking

Smokers that try to quit and fail tend to rationalize not quitting with excuses like "I'm going to gain weight", "I'll be in such a bad mood" or "I've tried before and it didn't work, so why bother?" (pain). They focus on the emotional struggles they'll have to endure as they try to quit. Whatever the excuse, no matter how big, small, real or imagined, it's usually just enough reason to give up - and so they do.

Those that succeed however, associate more pain with NOT quitting than with quitting. They can't bear the idea of continuing to be a smoker. They're sick and tired of everything negative associated with being a smoker - the smells, poor health, wasted money, etc. etc. etc. Plus, smokers that succeed concentrate their focus on the benefits (pleasure) they're going receive as a result of becoming a non-smoker.

So, the question is: How do we effectively put these powerful forces to work for us instead of against us so that we quit smoking quickly, easily and permanently? Here's the answer - step by step.

Step #1 - Grab a pen. On a simple sheet of paper begin writing everything down that you can't stand about being a smoker. Is it the money you keep throwing away? How about your health or the health of those around you that you truly care about? Maybe you're sick of the smell that gets into everything? Whatever it is, write it down. Don't just think about it. Write it down. Writing crystallizes thought and makes it more real than just thinking about it.

And the key to this entire process is to get emotional. It's our emotions that drive us. So, put your heart into it. This is your life we're talking about here. This isn't a game!

Step #2 - On a separate sheet paper, write down everything you're going to GAIN as a result of quitting smoking. What's it going to mean to you? Will you have more money in your pocket you can spend on the things you really want? How about less worrying about your health or smoking around your kids? Perhaps it's having a better-smelling house, car or clothes. Whatever it is that moves you, write it down.

And again, get emotional - REAL emotional.

Now, go make copies and post them wherever they'll be in front of you - your fridge, your bathroom mirror, your car - keep a copy in your pocket or purse at all times. Wrap a copy around your cigarettes! Make it so you couldn't forget about quitting even if you wanted to. Look at your lists constantly. And when you do, focus on the emotions you experienced as you made your lists.

And the final step is...(And this is the BIG one!)

Step #3 - Start living your life immediately as if you've ALREADY quit smoking. Don't think, "Some day I'm going to quit", because you'll never quit. Consider yourself a non-smoker today! However you see yourself, that's how you will be.

Then, take some sort of positive action that you see yourself as a non-smoker taking. It could be going for a daily 30 minute walk, starting a healthy diet, or even start making plans for all the extra money you'll have. And as you do this, don't look for motivation to move you. Just take action. Action creates motivation. Motivation seldom creates action. Action will literally reinforce your belief that you've already quit smoking and drive you, effortlessly, towards taking more positive actions.

So there you have it my friend. You now have the secret that most smokers will never know about quitting. And the best part is, everything you need is already in you.

Natural Ways to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 4/12/2009

Did you ever stop to wonder if there were some easy, natural ways to help you stop smoking? For instance, is there a meditation group nearby that has its focus on quitting smoking? If so, it might be a very good move to join them for a few sessions to see how you might do under their discipline and support.

Meditation has been around for thousands of years and has helped many people in many different situations. Its first objective is to quiet the inner chatter that goes on constantly in our minds. Once this has been accomplished (and at first you will never believe that you can do it), our minds are more receptive to positive thoughts that can help us in our goals.

Chanting a mantra as we meditate can bring us to a place where the mind will accept new and positive thoughts. Reinforcement is the key. Perhaps a mantra such as "I am well and strong, and I do not need tobacco" repeated several times a day will be enough to help one person stop completely. For another person it might take more than just a mantra and meditation, although they will certainly be of help.

Another natural way to combat the evils of smoking is acupuncture. This centuries-old Chinese method of inserting needles into the proper meridians of the body to increase the flow of energy to vital spots has had a good record in helping the tobacco addict. In conjunction with meditation and affirmations, acupuncture might be just the extra ingredient needed to start the ball rolling.

Acupuncturists are sometime medical doctors who use acupuncture as an adjunct modality in their practices, but most often they are practitioners who combine needles with acupressure and/or Reiki. The art of acupressure is the same as that of acupuncture with the exception that the healer uses pressure on the various meridian points instead of needles. Both are useful in clearing the energy flow through the various points.

Reiki is the combination of two Japanese word: "Rei", which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power," and Ki, "life force energy." Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and promotion of relaxation which brings about healing. The premise behind this is that we all have an unseen life force energy which keep us alive. If the energy is low, we are ill. If the energy is high, we feel well.

These three modalities, meditation, acupuncture and Reiki, could go a long way in helping us to defeat our dependency on tobacco. It is well worth a try.

Stop Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms

Written by V Pender on 4/12/2009

One of the nasty facts a smoker runs into when he/she decides to quit is that of withdrawal symptoms. And it is not a minor thing. Withdrawal symptoms can affect a smoker for months, even after the first crisis has been passed. And, of course, this is the primary reason people go back to smoking. After trying hard for several months and having severe cravings throughout the process, they come to the conclusion that it is truly impossible to quit.

But it is not impossible, it just takes several months and all the help one can get. The worst part of withdrawal is that there is always that addictive craving rearing its ugly head. And it is so easy to give in 'just once more.' The following list may give you a heads-up on what to expect as you begin your new, tobacco-free life.

Quit Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms:

  • Anxious feelings
  • Restlessness
  • Inability to fall asleep
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Concentration problems
  • Possible weight gain
  • Anger
  • Irritability
  • Constant craving for tobacco

Many symptoms reach their peak within 48 hours of quitting, although concentration problems, weight gain and craving for tobacco can last for much longer. Usually by 6 months the ex-smoker begins to feel more comfortable in his/her own skin, although sometimes it takes only 8 to 12 weeks to reach that stage. It depends on the person, and as we are all different, it is difficult to predict in each case.

Nicotine is the ingredient that causes addiction. It is a stimulant, just like cocaine, and is also a toxin. Many smokers believe that nicotine increases their brain power and also helps them to relax. The body gets used to a certain amount of this stimulant and if given less, begins to crave more.

Other Quit Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms Include:

  • Sweating
  • Tingling of the hands and feet
  • Cramps and nausea
  • Sore throats and colds, as the lungs begin to clear after years of assault.

There are mental symptoms that also occur while trying to quit smoking, and these can be very distressing to the would-be quitter.

Mental Quit Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms :

  • Feeling like an infant, with tantrums, dependency and other childish needs
  • Insomnia
  • Mental confusion, at times severe
  • Mental vagueness
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Who wants to stay in that condition? Nobody enjoys it and it is an uneasy time for most. Decide you want to quit, take the first steps and go on to become a happy and healthy ex-smoker!

Easy Ways to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 4/10/2009

It isn't going to be easy, but there are several ways one can start on the road to cleaner lungs and more energy. First off, try to keep strong and focus your mind on quitting. The following can help you:

  • Keep a diary of times when the cravings are worst
  • Try to stay away from smoke-filled places
  • Refuse the offer of 'just this once' from a friend
  • Keep busy so you won't be constantly thinking about smoking
  • Find a picture of lungs that have been blackened by tobacco and keep it nearby
  • Try some powerful daily affirmations
  • Don't start biting your fingernails as a substitute
  • Sweets will not do as a substitute
  • Make up your mind you have to do this for health reasons

And when you have done all the above, and still can't quit, more drastic measures are called for. The longer the addiction the longer it will take. Give yourself permission to slip once on a while but don't make it an everyday excuse to continue smoking.

What are the physical movements you do when smoking? Do you need to have a smoke to be able to talk on the telephone? Is it absolutely necessary to puff away while having a coffee? Is no meal complete without a tobacco fix afterwards? Find your weak points and try to change your routines.

There are many commercial products out there to help you in your search for a cure. Everything from nicotine replacement therapy which includes:

  • patches
  • tablets
  • inhalers
  • lozenges
  • gum
  • sprays
  • behavioral support and monitoring

In active treatment groups, nicotine replacement therapy was given to two groups, one getting actual nicotine replacement while the other group received a placebo. The results were encouraging. In the actual replacement group, twice as many quit smoking than in the placebo group.

While these statistics are heartening, there is still a great need to get to people who are slaves to the weed and can't seem to stop. Perhaps someday soon, with all the research that is going on, there will be a quick 'fix' for the desperate person trying to quit smoking.

But until that day arrives it is still a mixture of will power, determination, healthy eating, exercise and thought conditioning that will be the best allies we have for quitting the insidious addiction of tobacco. To those who have children: please do not let your child start to smoke, even if it seems 'cool' for them to do so. It can only bring sickness and addiction in the end.

How to Successfully Stop Smoking After Many Failed Attempts

Written by V Pender on 4/10/2009

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

-Confucius

Have you tried to quit smoking before but found yourself going back to your smoking habit? This article will teach you how to stop smoking after many failed attempts. In 5 simple steps, you will find yourself being able to say good-bye to your smoking habit.

Step No 1: What you need first and foremost is to have a strong reason to quit. You see, when you have a raison detre to quit, you are more better equipped to say no to smoking. For instance, your own reason to quit could be to live long and see your children grow. This kind of reason is strong to make you quit finally.

Step No 2: Tell just about everybody who knows you smoke that you are going to quit smoking. This reduces a situation whereby they hand you cigarettes when they are smoking. This also helps you stick to your resolve because you will see it as ungentlemanly(or unladylike) to go back on the words you have uttered out.

Step No 3: Get an accountability partner. Someone who will get you back on track if you miss your track. Such a person could be your spouse, friend, mentor or an ex-smoker. Just someone you can share your progress with and if there are instances where you missed the track,he or she could put you back on track. An ex-smoker will really help you get back on track as he or she will empathize but also assure you that if he was successful, you can too.

Step No 4: Avoid the company you used to keep when you were smoking so they won't influence you back into the smoking habit. Start keeping the company of people who don't smoke and you will find yourself forgetting the habit gradually. 'Show me your friend and I will show you who you are',so says the adage.

Step No 5: Get involved in sporting activities that will keep you busy during your leisure time because there is the possibility of your mind straying back to your smoking days when you are less busy but when you are occupied with sports, you won't have time to think about and anytime you feel you feel the urge to smoke,I suggest you drink water or eat fruits. This works all the time.

Who says you cannot quit smoking successfully? The fact that you have tried and failed before does not mean you should not try again. Download a 100% free ebook that gives you a 5-day Quit Smoking Action Plan @ http://2stopsmoking.blogspot.com

Quit Smoking With Laser Therapy

Written by V Pender on 4/08/2009

There is a new weapon in the anti-smoking arsenal. You are no longer limited to gums, lozenges, lollipops, and patches. If you are trying to give up the cigarette habit once and for all, you should consider talking to your doctor about how to quit smoking with laser therapy. Considering all the amazing things that are being done with lasers these days, it should come as no surprise that the medical community has found one more truly useful way to put laser technology to work for mankind.

Unlike some other laser treatments, the quit smoking laser is a cold one, and the therapy involves applying the cold-laser to certain pressure points on the body, sort of like acupuncture, but there are no needles, of course. So what good does it do to apply these lasers to pressure points on the forehead, hands, wrist, and nose? Well, when these points on the body are stimulated by the laser, the body releases endorphins and the treatment produces a "high" similar to that of nicotine.

Furthermore, the results of just one quit smoking laser therapy last about three days, which is just about the right amount of time for a smoker to get over the withdrawal symptoms that so often hamper attempts to put the pack down for good.

Does laser therapy help everyone? No, it is not for everyone. Have thousands of people benefited from the program? Yes. Should you try to quit smoking with laser therapy? It is a personal decision, of course, but if you truly want to quit the nicotine habit, it just makes sense to try anything that you think will help you.

If you are a smoker, there is no doubt that you need to quit for your own health and the health of those around you - your loved ones, friends, and co-workers - who are subjected to second hand smoke from your habit.

Quit Smoking Checklist For Today

Written by V Pender on 4/08/2009

Are you trying to put down the cigarettes once and for all? Everyone knows that smoking is not good for your health, but quitting one of the most addictive habits there is can be difficult for even he most strong-willed people. If you have made the decision to go tobacco-free, however, you should know that millions of people have successfully quit, and you can too.

Use this quit smoking checklist as a guide:

· Tell everyone you are quitting so they can support your decision and understand if you sometimes seem a bit cranky.

· Talk to your doctor and get advice about a quit-smoking product and stock up on it. Then, start using it.

· Prepare lots of low-calorie and nutritious snacks that you can munch on; this will give your hands and mouth something to do besides smoke. Carrot sticks and celery sticks are good options.

· Sign up for a stop-smoking class, clinic, or support group.

· Stay away from anything and anyone you associate with smoking. Your best friend at work and you usually share a smoke break at 10:00? Explain that you will take a break but no cigarettes can be involved. Have to light up with that glass of wine after work? Find a way to replace that temptation.

· Get rid of all your cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, and any other smoking-related products.

· Hang out with people who don't smoke.

· Start a new hobby - preferably one that will keep your hands busy, such as painting, sewing, needlecrafts, or woodworking.

· Get some lollipops, gum, or hard candy and use them when you are sick of carrots and want a cigarette.

· Stay away from liquor. Almost all smokers tend to smoke more when they drink, and drinking lowers your inhibitions.

· Drink a lot of water. Water helps with just about everything, including smoking cessation.

· Join a class or take up some other healthy activity that you couldn't do if you were constantly out of breath - aerobics, yoga, or maybe just walking or bicycling.

Stop Smoking Advice For Nicotine Addicts

Written by V Pender on 4/06/2009

Some would say all smoking is an addiction, while others would argue that it is a habit. I have found in my experience that there is a good proportion of smokers who somehow or other got sucked into smoking, got hooked and then have to smoke to feel normal. I define this type of smoker as a Smoking Addict and recognize the physical part of this addiction for what it is.

So how do you know if you are a Smoking Addict?

Do you need a cigarette first thing in the morning or upon waking?

Do you try to smoke at regular intervals throughout your waking hours?

Do you smoke about 20 or more cigarettes a day?

If you have tried to stop, did you lose your concentration and feel ravenously hungry?

If the answers to at least the first three questions is yes, then the way I see it, you are physically addicted. And not necessarily for much longer.

Whilst there is an emotional element in all addiction, many Smoking Addicts have either largely dealt with these or are finding ways to cope. Chances are, if you are addicted, you are so fed up with the addiction that you have a very strong will to succeed. You would also be most likely starting to experience the effects of smoking as a cough, chest infections, or maybe your circulation is not as good as it used to be. This adds to the motivation factor.

There are some smokers who are not only physically addicted as defined above but also have more extensive emotional issues. Should there be other addictions, such as bulimia or hard drugs, it is best to take it step by step, learn coping strategies, take care of the physical side, and heal the underlying emotional issues. A good EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioner with the relevant experience and skills should be able to help. They may advise you to also seek medical help and may offer to support you with that.

Other than the above, if you are not suffering from depression or anxiety and do not feel that you are using cigarettes as an emotional crutch, then the good news is that quitting smoking is likely to be very quick and easy for you. EFT is based on the acupuncture meridians. It helps to re-balance your body's "energy" system, release the cravings, improve your concentration, and all the minor emotional issues around smoking. Your EFT Practitioner should be able to help you become a non-smoker within one to two hours. Or you can learn EFT for yourself and help yourself. It takes literally less than one and a half minutes to do a full EFT procedure called the Basic Recipe. This is a robust formula designed to work under many conditions. If treating yourself, all you have to do is repeat this simple procedure every time you would have otherwise lit up, until the desire for a cigarette is completely gone.

One really nice thing about EFT is that when you have a treatment, you are proactive rather than reactive. You participate in your own special experience and walk away empowered with an easy way to gain control over many conditions, as diverse as backache and the common cold and everything in-between. A nice bonus for anyone who only a short while ago was being controlled by nicotine.

What Are the Best Ways to Stop Smoking?

Written by V Pender on 4/04/2009

Do a google search for Best Ways to Quit Smoking or Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and you will be inundated with a variety of products, from patches, gums, smoking hypnosis, herbal pills, lozenges, inhalers and sprays, books, CD's and lots more. Everyone claims their product is the best and will easily help you give up smoking. So where do you start and what really works?

Nicotine Replacement Therapies or NRT come in a variety of forms the most popular being chewing gum and nicotine patches which are placed on your skin. These all work by replacing the nicotine obtained from smoking to reduce the withdrawal effects you can have when you stop smoking.

There are several disadvantages to these aids, one being their expense. If you are a heavy smoker then the cost will probably be similar to what you would have spent on cigarettes but if you are only a light smoker you may find the cost prohibitive. In some areas you can receive NRT subsidized or even free so it is worth checking with your doctor for this help.

There are several side effects from using NRT which include upset stomachs, heartburn, headaches and skin rashes. A few people who use these smoking aids will also suffer from addiction switching. They may have given up smoking but they are now addicted the gum or patch: this has a variety of dangerous side effects on their health if used in the long term. Reports of hair loss, chronic depression, elevated blood pressure, facial reddening, bleeding and diseased gums are just a few of the effects of long term use.

Overall, nicotine replacement therapy could enable about 15% of smokers who seek help in stopping smoking to give up the habit but some of the side effects including the addiction switching should be fully considered before using this type of stop smoking aid.

Many medical professionals suggest using a smoking aid in conjunction with behavioural therapy and/or counselling. However there is a strong movement towards natural ways to quit with a number of studies proving that these could be the most effective methods even without the NRT. Possibly the most popular natural ways to quit include NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy.

The advantages of these systems are they are not reliant on using nicotine as an aid.

Acupuncture restores and balances a person's natural energy and healing system and with this equilibrium they are better placed to control the desires of smoking. It can be expensive as a number of treatments are needed and you should always use a professional practitioner as unclean needles can cause an infection. It is hard to determine the success rate of this system as there are a number of contradictory studies.

Hypnosis for smoking is a system that is receiving more recognition for its success rate and because it is a natural way to quit with no side effects. It works by planting ideas and affirmations in the subconscious mind whilst the smoker is in a deeply relaxed state. There have been reports of no cravings and no desire to smoke after one session. The success of the hypnosis smoking is dependent on the practitioner and it can be expensive. However there are a number of self hypnosis products which are good value for money.

With any of these processes to stop smoking each person will try a variety of processes before they hit on the one that helps them. No one will stop smoking unless they want to do so, and patient motivation must be the prerequisite of any quitting program.

5 Ways to Quit Smoking - Smoking Quit Tips

Written by V Pender on 4/04/2009

People that smoke know that it's bad for their health, but they do it anyway. It's one of those habits that are very difficult to break. There are people that have been smoking for years and are still going at it to this day.

If the smokers really want to quit, there are many ways that they can do that. In fact, this article discusses five ways to quit smoking. Smoking is a bad habit that can ultimately lead to health issues such as emphysema and cancer. So, if you start now trying to quit, you will make a big impact on your life.

Here are five ways to quit smoking:

• Meditate - Mediation allows you to control your mind. It is easy to do and it can help to relieve your mind of things that you should not be thinking about. You can sit in a room where it is quiet with your eyes closed. Or you can play some soft, soothing music. Mediation allows you to focus on the things that you should be paying attention to. Your mind is relieved of all of the forces that cause you to take action and smoke.

• Breathing - This is another one of the five ways to quit smoking. Use breathing exercises to control your nicotine cravings. Since you inhale a lot of toxic substances when you smoke, you can implement these exercises to exhale them out of your system. This can be done on a regular basis.

• Drink Water - Take small sips of water every few minutes. It can help to get rid of the craving to smoke. Drinking water also helps to get rid of the nicotine that is already stored in your system.

• Nicotine Patch - This is the fourth of the five ways to quit smoking. The nicotine patch works to reduce the potency of nicotine withdrawal. The longer you wear it, the less chance you have of wanting to get your smoking habit back. The nicotine patch is usually worn on your arm.

• Nicotine Gum - Nicotine gum works like the nicotine patch, except you chew the gum for a certain amount of time. This gum also works to reduce nicotine withdrawal.

These five ways to quit smoking can be very effective, provided that you use one or more of them on a regular basis. Just like you make a habit to smoke cigarettes, you can make it a habit to stop smoking. It can do wonders for your health and quality of life. How to Give Up Smoking - Why Popsicles Can Help You Quit Smoking Now

Written by V Pender on 4/02/2009

For almost twenty years, a part of my daily routine was to smoke cigarettes. When I finally decided to learn how to give up smoking, I was unprepared for the various withdraw symptoms that occurred.

Most smokers are aware of the withdraw from nicotine that will occur, as well as changes that are required in social settings. However, what I was surprised to discover was that the oral fixation addiction was almost as powerful as the nicotine withdraw itself.

As I went through the process of learning how to give up smoking, I of course made a small investment into a stop smoking program that treated the nicotine and exercise portions that are vital to success. However, I could not get over the incredible urge to have something in my mouth or hanging on my lips! I know it sounds strange, but in research, I found this to be a common problem among many people looking to stop smoking.

For a while, I had not idea how to solve this problem, until one day it hit me - popsicles! By sucking on a popsicle several times a day, I could easily satisfy the craving and feeling of have a cigarette between my lips. The wonderful flavors and satisfaction of a popsicle worked like a charm for me. I probably went though 400 popsicles during my quest to stop smoking, however, the cost of keeping these on hand far outweighed the cost of a carton of smokes.

By treating all aspects of the withdraw, from nicotine replacement gum to popsicles for the oral fixation, I was able to quit for good. It has been over a year smoke free now for me.

The exact program I used for the nicotine addiction was the CigArrest program. This program is 100% natural, meaning I was not replacing the nicotine from a cigarette with the nicotine from a gum or pill. The natural supplements the program offered really help calm my cravings, and they also provided a support structure and vitamin regiment that started repairing my lung capacity.

To get more information on how to give up smoking, including a free 30 day supply of CigArrest products, you can visit this stop smoking website: How to Give Up Smoking.

For the popsicles, I actually used the Flav-o-Ice brand. I found the size and shape of these freezer pops to be the most satisfying for my needs. Whatever method you choose, now is a great time to stop smoking.

Programs to Quit Smoking - Tips on How to Give Up Smoking (This Time For Good!)

Written by V Pender on 4/02/2009

Trying to find simple yet effective programs to quit smoking is more difficult than it sounds. Millions of smokers each year decide that this is the year they will learn how to give up smoking for good. Some may last a few days, others a few weeks. Sadly, most people will fail and return right back to smoking on a regular basis.

The problem is that there is seemingly not a guaranteed method of smoking cessation that will work for anyone and everyone. However, I can share with you a few tips and strategies that have worked for me.

First, do not make the mistake of going on a program to quit smoking that replaces cigarettes with another nicotine based product. Most gums and lozenges offered today contain nicotine. Sure, this will help cure your cravings, but as nicotine is the addictive part of the cigarette, you can become addicted to the gum instead. And nicotine gum, my friends, is certainly not cheaper than cigarettes. Many people go back to smoking because the nicotine addiction was not cured, and it is cheaper to smoke rather than buy expensive gum all the time.

The key here is to find a program to quit smoking that is homeopathic, and contains no addictive substances.

Second, you will need to also treat the oral fixation that comes with cigarette addiction. What has worked for me in the past is to replace smokes with pretzel sticks. You can even break them up into normal cigarette shapes and put them in an empty pack. When the urge hits, take out a pretzel instead! The oral fixation is satisfied, and you are working your way to breaking the smoking habit.

Use these two tips to help you on your way to a smoke free life. I have found that the program to quit smoking offered by Cigarrest to be extremely effective.

This particular program offers all natural, addictive nicotine free gum and lozenges, as well as a complete support system to get you over the hump. By treating both the psychological addiction and nicotine addiction, Cigarrest gives people a real chance at success, without becoming addicted to something else.

Cigarrest is currently offering a FREE 30 day trial as well.

To get started on your way to a smoke free life, get more information on the complete 30 day trial by visiting e-DietNews.com. There is a complete listing of free offers, including the Cigarrest 30 Day Trial.
