How to Deal With the Quit Smoking Symptoms

One of the reasons many smokers decide not to quit, is the fear of the all the quit smoking symptoms that they most likely have heard at one time or another. What you need to be aware of is that not everybody experiences them to the same degree. Another factor to consider is that for the most part, each type of symptom is short lived.

When you quit, you have to keep in mind that you are fighting one of the most powerful addictions that is known to mankind. Will it be easy? That's a hard question to answer as everyone is different. But what you need to do is have as much information on what to expect so you can effectively deal with it.

Most symptoms have been shown to dissipate after a certain amount of time. Again, this will vary for each individual. But studies have shown that the most common symptoms will usually subside after a period of 3 weeks.

Each day that you remain smoke free, especially in the initial stages when you quit, is crucial. This is where your body starts to mend itself. It starts to purge itself of all the harmful chemicals it has accumulated. This is usually where most smokers have the hardest time.

With that said, lets take a look at some of the common quit smoking symptoms that you might experience at the beginning.

Many smokers tend to report that they become irritable or anxious. This is directly due to your body still craving the drug nicotine. You may find yourself having difficulties sleeping or concentrating. Some smokers report headaches, or a slight nausea. Sore throats, tightness of the chest, constipation, increased appetite and even depression may occur in many smokers.

What you need to keep in mind is that most symptoms only last for a few days. Always focus on the long term results. If you have symptoms that become to severe, many over the counter remedies will work just fine in treating them. If these aren't successful, don't hesitate to contact your family doctor. As you probably already know, there are numerous prescription medications that are available to help you.

Out of all the quit smoking symptoms, one of the hardest to overcome is that of cravings. But take heart, cravings for nicotine only last for a few minutes. As time goes by your cravings become less and less. Each time you overcome them will only make you stronger to deal with the next one. Always think of the long term goal, a healthier and smoke free you.
