How to Deal With the Quit Smoking Symptoms

Written by V Pender on 12/18/2008

One of the reasons many smokers decide not to quit, is the fear of the all the quit smoking symptoms that they most likely have heard at one time or another. What you need to be aware of is that not everybody experiences them to the same degree. Another factor to consider is that for the most part, each type of symptom is short lived.

When you quit, you have to keep in mind that you are fighting one of the most powerful addictions that is known to mankind. Will it be easy? That's a hard question to answer as everyone is different. But what you need to do is have as much information on what to expect so you can effectively deal with it.

Most symptoms have been shown to dissipate after a certain amount of time. Again, this will vary for each individual. But studies have shown that the most common symptoms will usually subside after a period of 3 weeks.

Each day that you remain smoke free, especially in the initial stages when you quit, is crucial. This is where your body starts to mend itself. It starts to purge itself of all the harmful chemicals it has accumulated. This is usually where most smokers have the hardest time.

With that said, lets take a look at some of the common quit smoking symptoms that you might experience at the beginning.

Many smokers tend to report that they become irritable or anxious. This is directly due to your body still craving the drug nicotine. You may find yourself having difficulties sleeping or concentrating. Some smokers report headaches, or a slight nausea. Sore throats, tightness of the chest, constipation, increased appetite and even depression may occur in many smokers.

What you need to keep in mind is that most symptoms only last for a few days. Always focus on the long term results. If you have symptoms that become to severe, many over the counter remedies will work just fine in treating them. If these aren't successful, don't hesitate to contact your family doctor. As you probably already know, there are numerous prescription medications that are available to help you.

Out of all the quit smoking symptoms, one of the hardest to overcome is that of cravings. But take heart, cravings for nicotine only last for a few minutes. As time goes by your cravings become less and less. Each time you overcome them will only make you stronger to deal with the next one. Always think of the long term goal, a healthier and smoke free you.

How to Quit Smoking - Using One of the Ignored Psychological Methods

Written by V Pender on 12/16/2008

As far as the question of how to quit smoking is concerned, there are many methods: herbal quit smoking techniques, quit smoking laser therapy, music and relaxation therapy, Allopathic; and quit smoking aids.

There is another method which was overlooked by almost everyone. The method is from the psychological field and is being used to treat several mental disorders since centuries: The cognitive therapy. Nobody thought of applying the method to quit smoking help until a few months ago. As this method was introduced by psychologists to help quit smoking, the results have been positive. Many people are opting for the method even if it is a longer period counseling method. There is some predefined number of sessions which you may attend twice a week or daily as per your convenience and based on the results of the sessions, the total duration of the treatment is determined.

The Cognitive therapy was basically used in patients with some sort of fear associated with something. It was also used to change the behavioral patterns of people. The method is very effective. It can keep you off smoking cigarettes for two to three years. If you get habituated to the healthy lifestyle in between, you may not need any more counseling. Three years is a long time to bring ample changes in a person's lifestyle. You may start liking the way you enjoy your food, your smell power increases after you quit smoking. Initially there may be some withdrawal symptoms if you have been smoking too much for a long time. But then these therapists offer you with quit smoking help which reduces the effect of withdrawal conditions.

Withdrawal symptoms are the symptoms that appear if you suddenly stop something addictive. In case of cigarettes, it is quite less and can be some frustration, anger or some uneasiness. Your therapist helping you to quit smoking cigarettes will help you with controlling these symptoms. So, what is this cognitive therapy about? You know that a child learns things based on his environment. As he notices two things at a time, both of the two things get associated with each other and are stored somewhere in the brain. Later when the kid recalls or sees one of those things, the second item too is recalled automatically.

When your therapist offers you quit smoking help, he uses the same concept. First of all, you are presented with the environment containing the cigarettes' smoke. While you are in the environment alone, you are given some sort of uneasy or bad feeling that get associated with the smell of cigarettes. This is one of the best answers to the question of how to quit smoking. After successful completion of the sessions, whenever the person tries to light a cigarette, he recalls the bad experience that immediately repels his urge of smoking.

Isn't it Time to Stop Smoking America?

Written by V Pender on 12/14/2008

For the past 40 or so years, we have all known the dangers that are associated with cigarettes. With all that we know, don't you think it's finally time to stop smoking America?

You know you should quit. You know all the dangers and diseases that you can contract if you continue to smoke. There is no need to rehash them as they have been preached by the medical community for decades. You also know all the long term health benefits of quitting.

The question should now be: Are you finally ready to throw away those cigarettes for good and stop being a prisoner to nicotine?

What usually prevents most smokers from quitting is the fear of the unknown. You most likely have heard stories of the all the withdrawal symptoms you will experience. Yes, you will have withdrawal. Remember, smoking is an addiction. Your body will crave the nicotine that you have been feeding it for years. But be assured that it's only temporary.

It would be nice if the cry, "Stop Smoking America!" was emblazoned across billboard across the country to remind us all of the dangers of smoking. We need to hear it daily so that smokers will finally understand that they are slowly killing themselves in the guise of making themselves feel better.

Do yourself a favor. Take your cigarettes, get out of the chair now, and throw them away. Go ahead, do it!

Make the decision to become smoke free. Make the decision to live a longer life. The only way you will accomplish this is by no longer smoking. With the many programs that are now in place, both online and off, you should be able to find one that is right for you.

Sure, the road may become difficult at times. No one ever said that breaking an addiction would be easy. If needed, enlist the support of family members and friends. Reward yourself periodically for staying smoke free.

If you need further motivation to stay smoke free, think of the days that you will start adding back to your life when you quit. Think of the additional time you will have with your family.

Maybe what should be said instead of Stop Smoking America, is stop smoking everybody!

After being virtually chain smokers I am happy to say that my husband and myself both gave up smoking 12 years or more ago! We set up our own website in the hope that we will be able to help some other people to break their own smoking addictions and in the process save their health and some $'s. Alternative Ways to Quit Smoking This New Year

Written by V Pender on 12/14/2008

With the ever-increasing price of cigarettes, and volumes of warnings that aim to increase the public's awareness of the dangers of cigarette smoking, you'd think it would be a no-brainer for smokers to just up and quit the habit cold turkey. However, being a former smoker myself, I know that this statement is neither realistic, nor fair. So, what are the alternative options to quitting smoking?

With the ever-increasing price of cigarettes, and volumes of warnings that aim to increase the public's awareness of the dangers of cigarette smoking, you'd think it would be a no-brainer for smokers to just up and quit the habit cold turkey. However, being a former smoker myself, I know that this statement is neither realistic, nor fair.

Smoking is genuinely an addictive habit, not just mentally, although it certainly is psychologically addictive, but also physiologically, since nicotine is a substance that the body grows used to and craves, and when it is suddenly taken away, the withdrawal symptoms are anything but pleasant.

These withdrawal symptoms are the reason that many smokers never make it past a few weeks quitting the habit. It's also the reason that quitting smoking is so hard to do, especially the longer you've been doing it.

I've heard it all when it comes to the creative ways that men and women both will try to kick the habit. Some try the cold turkey thing, although this rarely works unless you have an iron will and are able to naturally cope with the symptoms of withdrawal on your own. Some people try cigarette alternatives, like herbal cigarettes, which are designed to help get rid of the nicotine addiction since they do not contain nicotine.

However, what some people don't realize is that herbal cigarettes are just as dangerous as smoking real cigarettes, and sometimes even more so, because they still emit carbon monoxide into the lungs and the body, and they also have carcinogenic chemicals that activate once the herbs are burned. One of the alternative cigarettes that is popular is reportedly an especially dangerous option, a tobacco and clove combination.

The cloves become extremely toxic when burned and inhaled into the lung tissue, with the potential to cause pneumonia and even pulmonary edema. They also happen to contain a lot more tobacco content than regular cigarettes, another reason to avoid them.

I'd say avoid herbal varieties of cigarettes all together if you can, even as a quitting mechanism, and instead opt for maybe a supplement or a patch to help you get through the rough patches, or try another alternative such as hypnotism. Hypnotism is one of my favorites. Self hypnosis has worked for scores of people to help them kick the habit once and for all.

It works by way of subconscious suggestion, on a subliminal level, and creates a strong desire to quit that is powerful because it comes from within your mind and is rooted in personal desire. This is one of the best ways to quit since it is truly all natural, and creates a desire beyond just a short time period of quitting that stays rooted in the subconscious for long after you've quit.

Of course if you ever feel yourself slipping and craving cigarettes again, you can always do "touch up" sessions of self hypnosis in your own home whenever you feel you need that positive reinforcement again.

Another popular alternative way to quit smoking currently are herbal supplements that are orally taken or adhered to the skin, in a patch form, that work sort of like a nicotine patch does, to transdermally (delivered through the skin) help you through your potential withdrawal symptoms.

The herbs are basically adhered to the skin via a patch which delivers beneficial ingredients through the skin to the blood stream, at time released intervals so you get the symptom control throughout your day, every day, to help ensure that your goals are reached.

Many people who are thinking of quitting smoking worry about the withdrawal symptoms, which include weight gain, irritability, restlessness, increased anxiety (although smoking actually increases anxiety, which many people don't know), inability to concentrate and many other unpleasantries.

In the end, no matter which alternative method you use to help yourself permanently give up the habit of smoking, it's going to boil down to a real concern for your health and well being, and a sustained desire to stay away from the potentially life shortening vice.

Only over time will you begin to see and feel the benefits of having clean, clear lungs such as, but not limited to, increased energy, better looking skin and teeth, and increased lung capacity

, and that's what keeps you on the wagon!

Best Quit Smoking Plan - 6 Ways to Make it Through Week #1

Written by V Pender on 12/12/2008

So what exactly is the best quit smoking method? There's so much "advice" out there, you may be a bit overwhelmed as to where to turn! Today we're going to give you 6 critical tips to stay on track during your first week of quitting smoking. The first week is expected to be the hardest right? Well... Then I'm assuming you can use some help! Here's some great ways to help you make it through week #1 - often referred to as "Hell Week" by smokers!

1. Get support! You already know all the health hazards of smoking, now you want to and need to learn how to stop! Have a group of friends or family members on hand who are willing to offer their support. Just make sure they are willing to offer that support even during odd hours, as during your first week, you never know when you're going to need it.

2. Have your refrigerator stocked full of healthy foods. You're going to get the "munchies" and the best way to avoid gaining weight when quitting smoking is to keep the junk food out of the house. This does not mean you have to eat cardboard... There are plenty of tasty, yet healthy snacks that will satisfy you. (Personally, I love cherries, strawberries with a little low fat whipped cream, and apples with peanut butter - make a list of your favorites and have them on hand)

3. Have a hobby or activity lines up for when the cravings hit. This is the perfect time to start a new fitness routine! A friend of mine recently quit smoking, and we helped him setup a plan to kill the cravings. Whenever he felt like he was going to give in, he would drop to the ground and do pushups... He started out only able to do 3 (And they weren't even full pushups). By his second week he was able to hammer out over 50 strict pushups and was already seeing a difference in his health and physique! See? the best quit smoking techniques are those that have dual purposes.

The pushups worked for him as they helped release tension in his body, refocused his mind to beat previous goals, and when he was done, he would take a warm shower. By this time, the craving had passed and he was happy he resisted.

4. Have bottle of water available at all times. Keep hydrated as not only will it help curb the munchies a bit, but water helps flush your body of all the toxins locked up inside you from cigarettes...

5. Do deep breathing exercises when needed. These release tension and stress, and calm the nerves. The calmer you are, the less intense the cravings will be.

6. Have a website you can visit for motivation as needed! Stop by our site and watch the videos, read the articles, and reaffirm your reason for stopping smoking! For some this may be pictures of blackened and damaged lungs of smokers. For others it may be an encouraging success story. "Gross out" videos worked great for a family member of mine. (I had to track them down and find them for him first)

How to Save Money on Your Stop Smoking Tools

Written by V Pender on 12/12/2008

If you know these secrets and where to find them! In this piece we're going to show you the top stop smoking tools that are proven to work. Many of these tools will cost money for those that do not use our tips. But you don't have to worry about that you've found the key to the vault.

Smoking has many undesirable effects that most of you already know about. But suffice it to say, that still over 440,000 people each year die from smoking according to cancer.org. This includes the direct smoker and those impacted by second hand smoke. Smoking has put a burden on the health care system to the sum of $4.7 billion dollars in health care costs alone. Not to mention the dizzying amount of money that is spent on tobacco containing products and assorted accessories.

What you are trying to avoid quite frankly - is death. Some people can get a smokers disease called COPD. COPD is directly linked to smoking at the rate of 98% of the time.

COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is the 4th leading cause of death in the United States.

If your were to see a diseased lung like this: wouldn't you want to stop smoking? Of course.

Diseased Lung From Cancer Smoking

Stop Smoking Pills - the first step on the train to being smoke free!

The first tool you should consider is the drugs. Here's why? We are a pill taking culture.

Why fight the years of popping pills to take care of many other things? For smoking cessation nothing beats the results of Zyban, Wellbutrin and now Chantix. All three agents are effective and approved according to the U.S. Food And Drug Administration as stop smoking pills.

The first two, Zyban and Wellbutrin, are the same agent just available under different names. Bupropion is the chemical compound. When you start your stop smoking program you may experience depression type symptoms. Wellbutrin was initially approved for depression before the smoking cessation approval became possible.

Chantix is the latest smoking cessation drug to hit the market. Pfizer is the maker and marketer. It works primarily by blocking the nicotine receptors from receiving nicotine.

Hence, your cravings decrease and you will have less and less desire to smoke.

If you really want to quit smoking right now, you should not isolate any of these methods. There is a type of synergistic effect that comes from countering the smoking habit from multiple angles. Because when you smoke, you are activating emotional, psychological and habitual forces that are really hard to break until now. Just combine this tool with the other tools you'll read about below.

To get Free samples of these powerful drugs you'll have to see a doctor and get a prescription if you live in the United States. When your doctor is discussing the options with you, YOU must ask her for some samples of whatever she is recommending. Don't feel embarrassed.

Thousands of dollars in samples are discarded as medical waste every month due to expiration dates. The doctors forget the samples are even in their drug rooms and now you can get your fair share. And its 100% FREE! Can't beat that with a stick can you?

Also, many drug companies have little known drug patient assistance programs that will give you FREE medications every month, but only if you apply. This is just like the government grant programs. Millions of dollars are wasted each year because people just do not know about the programs. A lack of knowledge is a powerful thing.

If you are reading this, you have all the tools needed to search the online for these programs. If you are like the rest of us, you'll probably want a few short cuts. Don't despair. We'll give you the "goose that laid the golden egg" in a moment. For now check out this Free resource to get started.

Win the Mind Power Battle and Quit Smoking Naturally

Written by V Pender on 12/11/2008

I have never met a smoker who is not in two minds over his or her nicotine habit. Part of them enjoys the ritual, the experience and the taste of smoking while another part wants to quit for all the good reasons that we will not go into here. Subliminal messages on CD or MP3 can help to solve this dilemma for smokers. They will encourage your unconscious mind to either get you free from tobacco or allow you to live in peace with your addiction.

We all experience cravings from time to time. Tobacco is an obvious one. Food of particular types is another strong one. Do you drool over that chocolate bar, the French fries or the fresh bread and butter? But have you ever considered the nature of the craving itself? What is happening in your mind when you can think of nothing but your craving?

Try this thought experiment! Bring to mind your personal craving. Is it...the first cigarette of the day, the junk food meal or the glass of wine? How does your craving appear to you in your mind? What are those thoughts like? Explore the nature of your craving in your mind's eye and ear. Is it in color or black and white? Is it a movie or photograph. Is there a sound associated with your craving in your head? Is it music, a voice, loud or soft? What is the tone? One thing for sure is that your own inner messages are not helping you get free from tobacco.

Subliminal messages to quit smoking, substitute your own inner voice with reinforcing helpful messages. You won't hear them because they are embedded in music and below your audible range, just like your inner voice. Together with your nicotine patches, the hypnotherapy and the self-help group work, subliminal messages will bring you to a healthier lifestyle.

Habits such as smoking are by definition very hard to break free of. Your mind is unconsciously following its' well-trodden path and no matter how much you tell yourself that it is bad for you and self-destructive it will not change without help. Subliminal 'quit smoking' messages on CD or MP3 player work consistently and repeatedly on the unconscious mind to divert it from the well-trodden path to the healthier road less travelled. That will ultimately become the new well-trodden path.

Is a Quit Smoking CD Really an Effective Way to Stop Smoking?

Written by V Pender on 12/11/2008

There really is no right answer to that question. A quit smoking CD may be the right choice for you, especially if you have tried other quit smoking programs and haven't experienced any success. As with all programs, results are going to vary depending on the individual. The most important aspect is that you have made the decision to quit. How that is achieved is entirely up to you.

One of the major drawbacks to a program such as this is simple. Unlike being able to walk into a clinic and speak with staff and other smokers in the program, most CD's are sold either online or through major bookstores.

This is where you have to gather as much information as possible for before making such a purchase. Be sure any program that you choose includes a refund policy. If there is a way to contact the company, do so. Ask for references if at all possible. If you can't seem to get the right answers, Move on.

Quitting smoking should not be taken lightly. Find a company that realizes this and is willing to help you before the sale of their product. Granted, it may take some legwork, but will be well worth the time invested.

When you finally do choose a quit smoking cd, make sure you follow the program religiously. Most programs will deal in the realm of self hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The theory behind this method is based on addressing your subconscious mind and the ability to actually change the way you think about your smoking habit. Most use a variety of techniques to induce a relaxed state of conscious then implant the suggestions that are designed to help you quit the habit of smoking.

By now you may be a bit skeptical, but hypnosis and hypnotherapy has been used for decades to help people finally quit smoking. Granted, there have not been numerous studies done to get an accurate measure of success. Again, this where it is crucial that you do your research ahead of time.

One of the major advantages of using a quit smoking cd is the cost associated with it. Most programs tend to be relatively inexpensive in comparison to standard clinic type programs. Quit Smoking Guaranteed - You Could Be Wasting Your Time and Money!

Written by V Pender on 12/09/2008

There's no end to the flood of products that claim to help you stop smoking. You have to ask yourself: "Do they really work?" This is an important question for many reasons. Number one, because you obviously want to be successful in stopping smoking. But number 2, because many of these products are expensive, and add up to hundreds of dollars per month!

Because of this, we've prepared a quick overview of the most common quit smoking methods:

Nicotine Patches

A lot has been said about nicotine patches throughout the years. One of the problems I have with nicotine patches is that regardless of what the advertising tells you, many people to this day still get addicted to "the cure." Sure, if you had to choose between smoking, or nicotine patches I'd recommend nicotine patches (momentarily) over cigarettes.

But many people find this method to quit smoking to be too drawn out as you're essentially breaking more than one addiction now. Not to mention it is quite expensive, and addresses only 1 aspect of quitting smoking: The nicotine. 90% of your battle to stop smoking will have nothing to do with nicotine, but rather the habit itself. There's a reason the U.S. Surgeon General Report showed only a 7% success rate for nicotine patches.

Final thoughts: While not the best quit smoking method out there, or even a preferred method, it is still better than nothing. Quitting cold turkey has only a 3 - 5% success rate at most. If you feel you want to go this route, be prepared for the cost involved. Even at a discounter, most patches will run you 35.00 - $40.00 per week and requires a 10 week period or more.

Nicotine Gum

Much of what was said above can also be applied to nicotine gum. I'm not a huge fan of using nicotine as a therapy... However, if you absolutely must use something to help you through the quitting process, then I say "go for it" - as quitting smoking is the ultimate goal here. The cost of gum will on average be a bit cheaper than patches. You should plan on spending at least $60.00 - $70.00+ per month on nicotine gum.

Nasal Spray

Most nasal sprays fall into the category of nicotine replacement products. Many are dispensed only with a prescription. It's important to make yourself aware of the potential side effects of using a product such as this. The cost here can be even higher than nicotine gum or patches depending on which product you opt for, the inhaler, or the nasal spray.

Once again, while I'm not a big fan of using nicotine replacement products, if this is what it takes to help you to quit smoking, then so be it. The cost is worth it.

Support Programs

Quitting smoking is 90% mental. It's a choice. With the proper mindset, you can and will stop smoking. As far as I'm concerned, I have seen far more success in those who quit smoking with a proper support program. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) seems to be one of the most powerful methods used.

Training your subconscious to actually want to quit, instead of fighting tooth and nail every second to resist is preferable to giving into the urges and using nicotine as a therapy tool. Once you've trained your thought process the right way, you'd be surprised at what you can accomplish, and how quickly!

Quit Smoking Using Acupuncture and the Law of Attraction

Written by V Pender on 12/09/2008

The Smoking Problem and Nicotine

Every day there are people who have decided to quit smoking but end up failing. If you are one of those people the problem is that you may not be addressing the smoking problem from the best viewpoint. There are really three different fronts in the war on smoking. First, you've got to deal with the physical addiction of nicotine. Despite the fact that nicotine is an extremely addictive chemical substance, there are actually some good ways to fight on this front. Most people are familiar with the nicotine patches, gums, and sprays. The basic idea of all of these alternatives is that you replace the nicotine in cigarettes and gradually cut down the amount of nicotine that you consume. As far as your physical health goes, this is really a great alternative because the nicotine substitutes do allow you to stop ingesting the hundreds of harmful chemicals in cigarettes. So, even if it takes you a long time to reduce your nicotine intake you are actually taking a more healthy approach to life. One word of caution about these substitutes is that you should consult with a physician if you are a woman who is either pregnant or breast feeding. An alternative substitute is niacinamide because it has chemical similarities to nicotine. It can be helpful in addition to nicotine substitutes or after discontinuing the use of the substitutes. Niacinamide is the amide of niacin as is known by the common name vitamin B3. Go to a certified nutritionist to determine the proper dose to take.

Other Factors that Make Quitting Smoking Difficult

However, many people start smoking again even though they have tried using the nicotine substitute and/or niacinamide products. So there must be another factor involved in smoking. These factors are psychological and habitual (or behavioral). Basically, it's the reinforcement that you get by lighting up a cigarette after a meal or during other periods of enjoyment or stress. It's that "this is a good thing" feeling that gets implanted into your subconscious mind. And therein lies the problem. The struggle is at the subconscious level, Your brain says, "I shouldn't be doing this." At the same time the subconscious says that you need to do it, and, in this battle the subconscious wins.

The NADA Acupuncture Protocol

A lot of smokers describe a calming effect that they receive from smoking. That is one of the reasons that the nicotine substitutes by themselves are not so effective. There is an extremely effective protocol for dealing with all types of addiction that has been developed by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). This protocol has been extremely effective when used for heroin, cocaine, alcohol, and other addictions, and it is extremely effective for smoking addiction. It involves the use of acupuncture needles in five locations in each ear. The five locations are derived from classical Chinese Medicine theory for the treatment of addiction and involve reinforcing the energy in the lungs, liver, and heart, as well as calming spirit. A skilled NADA certified acupuncturist can insert the acupuncture needles painlessly. Then you just sit and relax for about twenty minutes. This treatment may need to be repeated a few times a week depending on the severity of your smoking addiction. People with addictions report that they feel better both physically and mental after being treated with the NADA protocol. In addition, they report a feeling of calmness that replaces the need for the addictive behavior. You can find a certified NADA practitioner in your area by contacting NADA directly at (360) 245-0186 or NADAOffice@acudetox.com.

The Law of Attraction and the Master Key System

The greatest results with the NADA protocol are achieved in conjunction with counseling programs. Ultimately this counseling is directed at the struggle with the sub-conscious mind. This brings up the Law of Attraction. You may be familiar with this term from the movie, "The Secret." Wikipedia characterizes this as "if you really want something and truly believe it's possible, you'll get it." This really is a mischaracterization of the Law of Attraction as originally taught in 1913 by Charles F. Haanel in his Master Key System. This system is a 24 week course that teaches you how to make the Law of Attraction work for you in your life. Essentially the course teaches that things manifest in your life through the incredible power of the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is the tool for directing the action of the subconscious mind, and one of its most powerful tools is visualization. This is easy to say, but far less easy to implement. The real power of The Master Key System is that during the 24 lessons, one per week, you incorporate the full training into your subconscious mind. You really do learn to direct the subconscious mind.

In the smoker's battle there are some tools that attempt to deal with the subconscious like hypnosis and audio CDs. Sometimes they work, but often they don't. What could be better than a tool that teaches you to effectively direct your subconscious mind? That is The Master Key System. For it to work, though, you've got to do it, and that means reading about ten pages of text for five days each week and doing a few minutes of exercises. At the end of the week you answer ten questions about that lesson and then get the next lesson. That continues for 24 total weeks, and that's what makes it really work. There are many versions of The Master Key System on the internet. Be sure you get one that follows the one lesson per week format taught by Charles F. Haanel. If you just get all the lessons and read them, you won't get much benefit. Be patient. An old Chinese proverb says, "In hurrying there are no sure steps." Remember that you goal is to give up smoking forever. By the way, you will see that The Master Key System will change your whole life for the better.

So, by combining nicotine substitutes, niacinamide, the NADA protocol, and The Master Key System you will have the tools you need to effectively beat the smoking habit and make positive changes in your life.

Quit Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms - What You Need to Know

Written by V Pender on 12/08/2008

You most likely have heard numerous stories of smokers who experience quit smoking withdrawal and this is one the major reasons why smokers have a fear of finally breaking free from a lifelong addiction. If you take the time to learn about some of the problems that are associated with quitting, you'll be much better equipped to handle them when you do experience them.

Now this is not to say that all smokers experience the same symptoms. Far from it. But studies have been done over the course of many years and have found some common symptoms that most will experience to some degree.

One of the most common seems to be mild headaches occurring within the first few days. This is due to the fact that your body is now delivering more blood to the brain. It can also be related to the fact that the blood starts carrying more oxygen when you quit. Don't be alarmed. It's just your body starting the healing process. One of the best tips to combat this symptom is to drink plenty of fluids.

Another symptom of quit smoking withdrawal reported by many is irritability and not being able to concentrate. What you must remember here is that your body is craving the nicotine that you have been feeding it for years. This can make you irritable. It can cause you to lose your focus. When this happens, a good tip is to use some type of relaxation technique. Deep breathing, maybe taking a walk works wonders.

You may also experience symptoms such as coughing, a runny nose and even a mild sore throat. This is due in part to your respiratory system beginning to cleanse itself. The coughing is due from the tissues in your throat purging themselves of the tars and nicotine that has been built up. Once again, a good tip is to keep yourself hydrated.

Other symptoms may include insomnia, and even mild depression. Keep in mind they are all due to the fact your body will still have cravings. Smoking is the hardest addiction to overcome. Some say it's even harder to break than heroin. What have to keep in mind is that each symptom that occurs is only temporary. You just need to learn to fight through it. If you need to seek professional help, don't hesitate to do it.

When you are better educated about quit smoking withdrawal, and you know what to expect ahead of time, you will find yourself being able to deal with each symptom accordingly. Granted, your success will be determined only by you. Once you make the decision to quit smoking and live a healthier life, stick to it and see it through.

Quit Smoking Tips to Help You Succeed

Written by V Pender on 12/08/2008

If you want to quit smoking, you need to arm yourself with every possible weapon in the battle against nicotine addiction. As you no doubt are aware, millions of people try to quit smoking every year. Some of them succeed, but it's a sad fact that many of them fail. Here are some quit smoking tips to help you be one of those that finally rid yourself of this deadly, expensive habit.

The first and most important of all quit smoking tips is to be prepared for nicotine cravings. They will happen, no doubt about it. But you can get past them. Tens of thousands of people every year give up smoking for good, and if they can conquer cravings, so can you. The main thing to do is just keep in mind that the craving, no matter how strong and irresistible it seems, will pass. It's a flare up, and it will usually go away in a few minutes if you don't give in to temptation.

Don't skip meals. Hunger and smoking are associated in many smoker's minds, and many people have been using cigarettes as substitutes for eating for years. So don't let yourself get hungry. Make sure you eat three hearty meals a day. This will also help reduce cravings, which is as much about oral fixation as it is about nicotine withdrawal.

Avoid alcohol altogether. Alcohol and cigarettes go together like clouds and rain. Scientists don't really understand why beer and other drinks cause such a powerful urge to smoke, but there's no getting around the fact that they do. You don't necessarily have to become a teetotaler for life, but don't drink until you've been off cigarettes for several months.

There are many other great quit smoking tips, but these are three of the biggest and most important ones. Follow them, and your odds of quitting smoking will be much higher.

Are you at your wit's end trying to quit smoking? Don't fail again - find out how others have quit, and quit for good at my blog, quit smoking programs. You will discover regularly updated information including 5 stop smoking benefits, quit smoking acupuncture remedy, videos, and more!

Stop Smoking Benefits That You Need to Know

Written by V Pender on 12/06/2008

It has been well documented that the stop smoking benefits begin almost immediately after you finally make the decision to become smoke free. Usually with the first 12 hours your body will start the natural process of healing itself.

As the body starts to purge itself of carbon monoxide and nicotine, you may experience what are called withdrawal symptoms. This is quite normal after any addiction. But instead of focusing on those temporary affects, let's talk about the long term health benefits.

Almost immediately your blood pressure returns to its normal state and so does your pulse. Usually within a matter of days you will notice some dramatic differences in the way you feel. Many ex smokers report a change for the better in their sense of taste and in their sense of smell. You will also notice that you will breathe easier, and finally your smokers hack will also begin to decrease.

Within a matter of days, your chances of suffering a heart attack decrease. The nerve endings that have been damaged due to smoking start to repair themselves.

After a few weeks of being smoke free your overall circulation begins to improve which leads to less fatigue. What's most important is that your lungs start to heal. You start increasing your lung capacity anywhere form 20 to 30 percent. The cilia in your lungs start to regrow, keeping your lungs cleaner and increase your ability to fight infections.

As you can see by now, the stop smoking benefits far outweigh the risks that associated if you continue to smoke. After a year of being smoke free, studies have shown that you reduce your risk of coronary disease by half. After 5 years your chances of suffering a stroke are almost equal to that of a lifelong non smoker.

Remember, this decision that you have made is a life long commitment to being healthy. As you remain smoke free you start adding days to your life. You start to significantly reduce your chance for cancer, emphysema, stroke, and lung disease.

As you probably have heard time and time again, smoking kills approximately 300,000 people a year. Scary statistics when you stop to think about it. Another benefit is freeing yourself from the burden of the economics of smoking. You no longer incur the expense of cigarettes or the expense of the additional health care needed if you were to continue to smoke.

Look at quitting as a journey. One that can lead to a healthier you. The stop smoking benefits, when you sit back and think about it for a second, far outweigh the consequences of maintaining a habit that will eventually lead you to ruin.

I am happy to say that after being virtually chain smokers for decades my husband and myself both stopped smoking 12 years or more ago!

Will the Stop Smoking Shot Truly Meet the Need?

Written by V Pender on 12/06/2008

You may have begun to see signs for a "Stop Smoking Shot," but is it a miracle or just another scam designed to part you from your money? Maybe you've tried acupuncture, the patch, nicotine gum, fake cigarettes, hypnotism and every other trick in the book, but are you ready for this?

To find out if the smoking cessation shot is for you, read on.

An Introduction to the Smoking Injection

The smoking shot isn't an injection of nicotine to help you get over your addiction. Unlike the patch or nicotine gum, it attempts to relive withdrawal symptoms by injecting you with, essentially, antidepressants that give your brain the same "high" as nicotine.

For some people, this placebo effect works and for others the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal are too strong to quit. For the smoking injection to work, a quitter needs to be committed and willing to combine the treatment with other smoking cessation strategies like limiting habit triggers and reducing stress.

It's Effectiveness

Unfortunately, the stop smoking shot hasn't been around long enough to be subject to any long-term studies. And while most providers of the shot claim it has an 80% effective rate, those figures aren't based on long-term research. It's unclear how effective the shot is over a long period of time like 1 to 10 years.

There are currently no studies that illustrate the long-term efficacy of the smoking cessation shot.

The Process

There are currently no studies that illustrate the long-term efficacy of the smoking cessation shot.

Once your injections are complete, you need to continue wearing a patch behind your ear and taking complimentary drugs for two additional weeks. At that point, you and your doctor will decide if additional treatment is needed.

How Safe is the Drug?

The smoking cessation shot is not technically approved by the FDA. The drugs used are approved and doctors are allowed to administer them, but they're not intended to be used as a smoking cessation tool.

The Cost of the Smoking Injection

To cover the cost of the injection and the two weeks' worth of drugs and patches, you should expect to pay between $300 and $600. Often, most insurance companies will cover the cost of treatment.

Common Side Effects

Common side effects of the stop smoking shot include dizziness, dry mouth, confusion, blurred vision and trouble urinating. However, these side effects are typically temporary and tend to disappear. If you're pregnant or suffer from a heart condition, this treatment isn't for you.

Why Stop Smoking? - The Benefits After You Quit Smoking and Stop Smoking Herbal

Written by V Pender on 12/05/2008

So why stop smoking?

• Within 20 minutes, your blood pressure, pulse rate and the temperature of your hands and feet return to normal.

• Within 8 hours, oxygen level in the blood increases to normal as carbon monoxide in blood decreases.

• In 24 hours, your risk of heart attack starts dropping.

• In 2 days, your nerve endings start to regrow, and your senses of smell and taste improve.

• In 3 days, breathing gets easier and lung capacity increases.

• Within 2 weeks to 3 months, circulation gets better; lung function improves up to 30%, and walking gets easier.

• Within 1 to 9 months, lung cilia regrow; coughing, sinus problems and shortness of breath decrease, and you'll have more energy.

• After 7 years, ex-smokers' mortality rates approach those of people who have never smoked.

It is very common for an individual to experience the following symptoms or side effects after you don't smoke anymore.

• After you stop smoking, you might feel a little lightheaded or dizzy. This is due to the fact that about 40% of the oxygen in each red blood cell is replaced by carbon monoxide when you smoke.

• After you quit smoking, you might cough more. Smoking causes your body to produce extra mucus to try and protect your lungs from the additives in tobacco. The toxins in tobacco smoke paralyze and eventually kill the cilia (hair like cells) that wave back and forth to sweep particles out of the lungs. Once you stop, you don't need the extra mucus; therefore, the cilia that are left move back into action and you cough to eliminate the excess mucus.

• After you don't smoke anymore, you might experience feelings of withdrawal. This is due to your entire body being used to the artificial stimulation of nicotine and the 4,000 plus other chemicals in tobacco smoke.

• After you quit, emotionally, you may feel slightly depressed, anxious, antsy and jumpy. It is also quite normal to experience insomnia or have trouble concentrating.

I am often asked if there is an herbal to help with smoking. The primary quit smoking herbal I would suggest would be lobelia. Lobelia's common name is Indian tobacco. Lobelia contains about 0.48% pyridine (piperidine) alkaloids composed mainly of lobeline with lesser amounts of lobelanine, lobelanidine, and other alkaloids. Lobelia, also contains resin, gum, lipids, and chelidonic acid. Lobelia is a very effective expectorant. Although it has a long history as an herb to curb smoking, it also has a long history in the use of asthma.

Lobelia causes broncho-constriction and is a respiratory stimulant. Lobelia also binds to nicotine acetylcholine receptors in ganglions, thus promoting the release of norepinephrine and epinephrine. It is this action on adrenal hormone secretion that is responsible for lobelia's therapeutic effects. Lobelia is used to lessen nicotine withdrawal, as it has a similar action to nicotine.

Ingestion of toxic levels of lobelia as a quit smoking herbal usually result in vomiting thereby lessening the likelihood of a fatal outcome. As with any intensive dietary program, you should consult a healthcare professional.

The Top 3 Reasons to Stop Smoking Today

Written by V Pender on 12/05/2008

You know you need to quit smoking. The medical evidence is overwhelming regarding the harm that cigarettes can do.

So here are the top 3 Reasons To Stop Smoking.

Number 1 - You live longer

Number 2 - Your wife or significant other lives longer

Number 3 - Your children live longer

If that is being redundant, well, so be it. The list could go on and on and on but what is more important in your life? A cigarette? Or the health of yourself and the people that you love? Sit back and take a minute to think about that one.You know of the health risks of smoking and you know the health risks of those exposed around you. Medical professionals have been screaming them for years.

Each day more and more studies are published detailing the hazards of smoking. Cancer, emphysema, stroke and heart attacks to name just a few. Scary isn't it? Hopefully it is enough to make you quit.

Another reason to quit that I'm sure you have thought about, especially in these rough economic times is the cost. The cost not only in terms of what comes out of your pocket, but the cost to our society as well. It's been well documented time and time again the burden of all the diseases that have to be treated that are related to smoking.

Do You ever stop and think what you could do with the money you would save if you quit? Have you? Maybe a nice vacation, something for your kids, or a surprise gift for your wife. Think they might appreciate that?

But most of all, as was stated earlier, the number one reason you should quit is you live longer. If that doesn't motivate you to quit smoking nothing will.

Stop and think about all the things you enjoy about your life. If it helps, make a list on paper. Study it for a minute or two. The most difficult part, and I'm sure you know this, is taking that first step. Throw away the cigarettes, stop buying them. Find something to concentrate on instead of lighting up. Develop a mindset that you no longer want to be a slave to nicotine. If it helps, visit your family physician and get his recommendations on a proven quit smoking program. Take action and don't procrastinate.

Focus on what it will feel like when you're finally smoke free. Food tastes better. You breathe easier and don't tire as easily. You sleep better. This list could also go on and on. You know this; it's been common knowledge for decades.Never lose sight of one of the best reasons to stop smoking because it deserves repeating. Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. It is the leading preventable cause of death and disease.

In the United States, an estimated 25.6 million men and 22.6 million women are smokers.

An average of 400,000 Americans die each year from tobacco.

Reasons to quit smoking:

#1 Your breath smells better.

#2 Bad smelling clothes and hair go away.

#3 Your yellow fingernails disappear.

Stop Smoking Techniques - 7 Popular Methods

Written by V Pender on 12/01/2008

According to the CDC, an estimated, 20.8% of all adults (45.3 million people) smoke cigarettes in the United States. In 2004, Lung Cancer was responsible for more deaths than prostate, breast and colon cancer combined. Over 80% of those deaths are related to smoking cigarettes.

Approximately, four out of five smokers would like to quit . The key is finding the right program for you.

7 popular methods:

1. Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a safe and natural state of awareness that allows you to use the power of your subconscious mind to quickly change habits and control behaviors. Hypnosis has one of the higher success rates compared to other approaches, as long as you work with a professional Certified Hypnotist and have a strong desire to stop. In many cases this can be accomplished in just one session.

2. EFT

EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture without the needles. You tap on certain meridian points to balance the energy system in your body. EFT is simple to learn, gentle and easy to use, can be used anywhere, only takes minutes, and has such great results. EFT is most effective when used in conjunction with another cessation method.

3. Prescription drugs

Various prescription drugs (Chantix, Zyban, Nicotrol) have helped many people to quit smoking. The success rates are not as high as some of the other methods, and the possible negative side effects can be intense. Talk to your Doctor for more information.

4. Nicotine Replacement

Gum, patches, lozenges are all types of nicotine replacement products. These products tend to have a fairly low success rate, and may have some potential negative side effects. They are most effective when used in conjunction with another cessation program. Before trying any nicotine replacement product please consult your Doctor.

5. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient chinese treatment that involves balancing the natural energies in the body by placing needles into certain meridian points. This helps curb the desire to smoke. Being successful with acupuncture may require multiple treatments and a strong desire to stop. There is not enough scientific evidence to determine the success rate of acupuncture.

6. Laser therapy

Low level laser is a modern day version of acupuncture. When the laser is applied to certain points on the face, ears, and hands, it releases endorphins that helps reduce the stress associated with cravings. The FDA ruled that the use of low level laser is a safe and non-significant risk. As with acupuncture, there is not enough scientific evidence to determine the success rate of low level laser therapy.

7. Cold turkey

This is the most popular method, but has the lowest success rate. Many people fail, because in order to be successful at quitting cold turkey you need to be 100% committed. Having a smoking cessation plan will increase your odds of success.

The Quit Smoking Hypnotism Method and How it Can Help You Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 12/01/2008

We all know the dangers of cigarettes: Death, Cancer, Disease. You finally make the choice to stop and you might be considering if quit smoking hypnotism is the right choice in helping you achieve a life of being smoke free.

What you have to remember is that millions of people make the conscious choice to quit smoking every single day. The problems that are faced are numerous. You've heard them all before, withdrawal symptoms, cravings and the lure of smoking heightened by nicotine withdrawal.

Maybe you've tried to quit using different types of programs only to find yourself once again lighting up that cigarette. If this describes you, then maybe hypnotherapy might be a good alternative.

As with any type of health program, do your research effectively before you make a commitment. Don't be afraid to ask questions of the therapist. Find out about such things as success rates and guarantees. Determine if the cost of hypnotherapy is covered by your insurance provider. Now, once you have all that out of the way, make the decision to quit and stick to it.

There are many quit smoking hypnotism methods that are now available to you ranging anywhere from CD's to actually visiting a licensed hypnotherapist. Studies have shown that the success rates using this method can be as high as 80 percent.

Unlike many programs that deal with the physical side of trying to stop smoking. Hypnotherapy deals with the subconscious side and the ability to change your behavior. Since your smoking addiction is actually a deep seated habit, your mind needs to be reprogrammed to change that habit. Hypnotherapy addresses your subconscious mind and causes it to replace the bad habits and behavior with good ones.

You might be thinking by now that it sounds a bit like mind control but in reality that's the farthest thing from the truth. The method works on your subconscious where your thought patterns are formed. Once those are changed, your pattern of smoking is also changed.

Granted, quit smoking hypnotism may not be the right choice for everybody, but it does provide another option when you finally make the choice to become smoke free. Just keep in mind that the results of any program will be entirely up to you making the decision that you want a healthier and longer life. Make the commitment and follow through.
