Quit Smoking Aids That Can Help You

Written by V Pender on 1/30/2009

A lot of people try and quit smoking cold turkey. The only problem here is that most people need a little bit of help whenever they are trying to stop smoking. The best way to get this help is to count on some quit smoking aids. These are aids that you can buy at stores come in a lot of different styles. Not all styles work for everyone, but that is why there are so many different kinds. Today we are going to talk about a few well known quit smoking aids that can help you, as well as some nice habit breakers that could release you from your smoking dungeon. Sure, it costs some money buying these quit smoking aids, but in the end, you will save so much money from not buying smokes that you will end up saving a ton of money!

First of all, a lot of people have a hard time quitting smoking, because it is a habit. What people really need is a little will power and a habit breaker. For most people, using things to keep in their mouth really helps. This could be hard candies, gums, or something like that. Of course, these do not work for everyone. One of the best habit breakers looks almost like a straw. Inside these straws are little nicotine patches that you actually inhale. This works much in the step down method. As you become in control of your craving, you are able to step down to lower doses of nicotine. However, the reason why this works better than other methods is because of the way that you take your nicotine. Unlike other products that you just place on you, this is one that you actually hold like a smoke. You even huff on it like it is a smoke. This gives you the feel like you are smoking, which helps most people learn to quit.

Some other methods that people like to use are, of course, the nicotine gum and the nicotine patch. These are products that are full of nicotine, which just so happen to be the drug that makes smoking so addicting. However, unlike smoking, these patches and gum come with a step down plan. This is a way to get less and less nicotine with each product you use. Soon you will be able to just wing yourself off of it. Choosing which one will work for you is always something that is up in the air. If one does not work, do not give up. Try the other method, and see if that helps you.

Last, but not least, another great smoking aid is just to call quit smoking hot lines. These are great phone numbers that you can call and talk to people 24 hours a day that can help give you the will power that you need to stop smoking. Sometimes all we need is a quick reminder that we do not need to smoke. Calling these phone numbers is a nice quick way to find a friend whenever you need one. This could just be the little push you need to quit smoking.

4 Methods to Help Your Partner Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/30/2009

Whenever your partner has chosen to quit smoking for good, you will play a very important role in assisting him or her. Not only are they doing themselves a big favor by bidding farewell to this bad habit, they're helping you and your family also because of the bad effects of second hand smoke. Here are some simple methods to help your loved one quit smoking.

Accompany Him or Her

Whenever you're a smoker then by accompanying him, your opportunities for quitting can increase manifold while you get instant support from somebody close to you. Even though whenever you're not a smoker, there certainly must be a field in your life on that you've been meaning to work and therefore you can make that your goal. It could be meditating, exercising more, losing weight or abandoning alcohol. No matter it may be, start helping your partner quit smoking by setting goals for yourself also. So in case he actually feels the need to smoke a cigarette, you can help him by modeling how you too are getting away from brownies and French fries.

Keep Him Away from Triggers and Triggers Away from Him

Few people or situations can be causes for wanting to smoke again. As a method to help him quit smoking, try to make programs which don't revolve around places where everyone is happily puffing away or friends who smoke. Get rid of ashtrays and other stuff from around the house which can serve as regular reminders of the bad habit. Unsubscribe from smoker promotional mailings and emails that send discount coupons and other incentives to continue smoking.

Get Him Busy

Learn ballroom dance and enroll in a cooking class together. It may not be a magic pill but it may help you get his mind away from smoking and in to some other creative outlet.

Focus on the Positive

Help him quit smoking by finding out articles about the financial and health benefits of kicking this bad habit. Of course, he may understand most of it already however subtle reminders can play as motivation and may just make the change between lighting up another cigarette or not.

Many studies suggest that working towards any goals becomes easier whenever done with someone. That's what Weight Watchers is supported because they say people who join with a friend are thrice as more likely to follow with the program and hence lose weight and keep it away. The same goes for helping someone stop smoking. Give them the companion they prefer to go out, some support and the shoulder they need.

Can Hypnotherapy Help You to Quit Smoking?

Written by V Pender on 1/28/2009

If you have ever really wanted to quit smoking, then this could be the most important article you have ever read.

Here's Why:

Smoking is no longer considered cool, it has become problematical in the social environment as you can no longer smoke in many places, and we know so much more these days about the damage to ourselves and others caused by smoking.

Some people think that there are genetic, personality, social, cultural, psychological and environmental factors associated with smoking behaviour. I have treated many people using hypnotherapy to quit smoking, and their personalities have all been different! The genetic, or so called addictive personality argument also doesn't fit my experience. Most become non smokers and stay smoke free after treatment.

Smoking addictions can lead to problems beyond the object of addiction itself, such as problems with your health, emotions, capacity to concentrate and your relationships (not to mention financial issues).

Smoking can give the illusion of relaxation while in reality, great stress is added to the body mind system.

The good news is, you can learn how to stop craving cigarettes and start living. Counselling, hypnotherapy and NLP to help you quit smoking are available in our Brighton, Melbourne clinic.

At Bayside Therapies our therapists work one on one with people to enable them to quit smoking. First we find out if you click with the therapist, and if we think we can help you help yourself.  Even at this first meeting most people gain more self-awareness and different ideas to consider on how to quit smoking.

The approach during treatment will depend upon what we consider most valuable for you, and may include one or a combination of humanistic person centred therapy, Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation exercises, Existential therapy, psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, Dream work, NLP, Hypnotherapy and other such methods. The key is to find out what is best for you to enable you to quit smoking, so you can discover lasting inner peace and real happiness without dependency on something outside yourself.

My approach is psychological in nature and natural (does not involve medication). However people are frequently referred by their doctors and both approaches can sometimes work well together. Usually a good fit with hypnotherapy and counselling helping people to quit smoking for the long term. To ensure value for money, please mindfully ask yourself right now what will it cost you not to smoking?

Determination Ways to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/28/2009

div style=clear:both;/divpIf you are been trying to stop smoking, there are many potential ways available today for you to try. In this few years, the bad smoking effects have been brought into the public's eye more than ever before./ppGovernment agencies are putting laws making smoking illegal in many public places. Nowadays very few public places still allow people smoking with the exception of a few taverns, restaurants and bars. Even these places are fighting legislation to let them the right to make their own choices according the smoking banning./ppMeanwhile, you might find it very difficult being in places where you are not allowed to smoke if you are a smoker. Therefore you are looking for an effective way to stop smoking if you are like most./ppI was a smoker for over 20 years and always try to look for ways to stop smoking. Each way I tried seemed to be succeeding for a first few days and then the old cravings would come back and I am start up again. Every time I heard of some new way on the newspaper, television or radio, I was there in line for waiting to give a try on that product but none of them worked for long. What I did not understand that unless I was 100% committed to quit smoking, otherwise no product will going to work./ppIf you want to stop smoking for good, you will find many different ways to stop smoking easily. You may be one of the lucky people who can quit smoking on your own without the help of supplements and products. However because of the physical chemicals that go into the cigarettes today, our bodies have produced a physical dependency on cigarettes and making it very hard to quit smoking cold turkey./ppThere are many quit smoking methods available that can make this process become easier for you. Many sites online will give out some CDs and DVDs to assist you in quitting smoking. They are like meditation program that also offer a help line for you to call once you feel yourself weakening. Many individuals get it very useful to talk with others who have the same smoking addiction./ppHypnosis programs have also been useful to many smokers today. Your hypnotist may give you as many sessions as they or you think are needed. You may feel that hypnosis is an expensive way to stop smoking however if you consider the cost of smoking and the danger it poses to your health, the fee does not seem quite so high to you. Moreover unlike smoking that continues to take your money, you are done paying when you are done with the hypnosis./ppOther stop smoking products like patches, tablets or gums and each of these has their own benefits. They give your body nicotine to help eliminate or lessen the withdrawal symptoms without getting the damage to your lungs. The unlucky thing about these products particularly the patch is that there are some unsafe side effects. Seek for your doctor's help before taking any of these products. Stop Smoking - Gain Weight?

Written by V Pender on 1/27/2009

div style=clear:both;/divpAre you considering giving up smoking but are worried that you will gain weight as a result? The fact is that even if you do put on a few pounds when you quit smoking, the health benefits of smoking cessation far outweigh the extra few pounds that you may gain./ppThere are several reasons why you may tend to gain weight when you stop smoking./ppolliUnfortunately, nicotine is an appetite suppressant. Research suggests that since nicotine is a stimulant, it interferes with the release of insulin in the body. Insulin controls the glucose levels in the blood, and sends hunger signals to the brain. Because of nicotine's interference with the release of insulin, the body registers a decrease in hunger signals. Since the appetite is suppressed, less food is usually consumed./liliResearch also suggests that nicotine increases metabolism and maintains this higher rate of metabolism. This increased metabolism means that more calories are being burned by smokers than by non smokers, for the same quantity of food consumed./liliThe act of smoking burns calories. Research puts it between 150 to 300 calories per day./liliWhen you stop smoking, you lose these weight loss advantages. So if you eat the same quantity and maintain the same level of activity, you will gain weight./liliYou may tend to look for a substitute for the cigarette you were continually putting to your mouth. These substitutes add up to more calories./li/ol/ppHowever the outlook is not as bleak as it may seem./ppYes you may be eating more, but because you have given up an unhealthy habit, you may be encouraged to eat a healthier diet. Don't munch on chips or chocolate bars. Try crunchy veggies with dip, some fruit or a granola bar. That way you can satisfy your need to put something in your mouth without a huge increase in calories./ppYou will also find quite quickly that you feel better and have more energy. Take advantage of these good feelings and join the gym (hint- use the money you're saving from not buying cigarettes), sign up for a sport, or just get out there and walk. You'll bump your metabolism up the healthy way./ppThe bottom line is that even if you do gain some weight, you will be healthier with a few extra pounds than by staying slim but smoking. And just because you gain a few pounds doesn't mean that you can't lose them. You use a lot of willpower to successfully quit smoking, so you can use this same willpower to help you lose some weight down the road. You'll be adjusting your lifestyle for some time after smoking cessation, and getting to and maintaining a weight you are happy with is a part of this lifestyle adjustment./pdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divpQuitting may not be easy. Written by V Pender on 1/27/2009

Once you've made that all-important decision to stop smoking, it's time to decide how. There are any number of programs, medications, and strategies out there. But is there an easy way to quit smoking?

Well the answer is yes and no. A lot of it depends on you. What may be easy for one person may not be easy for another. But when you find a strategy that you think can work, it may help if you tell yourself, quitting is easy this way.

If you think you can't stop smoking because it's just too hard, you probably won't. But if you think you can quit, your odds of succeeding will be better. Positive thinking truly can make smoking cessation easier.

Lots of people have quit smoking, although not always the first time and not always forever. If at some point you have quit but returned to smoking, it's important not to look at this as a failure. Even if you're tried to quit multiple times and started up again, look at each attempt as a step toward success because you either stopped smoking for awhile or you smoked less.

Try to find ways to motivate yourself to quit. Think of some really good reasons why you would want to quit.

Maybe you're worried about that nagging cough or the fact that you get winded just walking up a flight of stairs. Perhaps you've noticed those lines around your mouth becoming more pronounced and that your hair and skin seem dull and lifeless.

It could be that your son told you that the kids at school tease him because his clothes smell like smoke. Or maybe you're just tired of all the money that's literally going up in smoke.

By motivating yourself to stop smoking by finding a good reason, quitting may not be so hard. When you break it down like that, maybe there is an easy way to quit smoking.

If you have made the decision to stop smoking, find out some of the best ways to quit smoking.

Quit Smoking Methods - 6 Different Ways to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/25/2009

div style=clear:both;/divpThere are many different ways to stop smoking once you have made the decision to quit. Some quit smoking methods may be more effective than others for you. Only you can decide which method to use, but here are six for you to consider./ppolliQuitting cold turkey. You will probably need lots of support from family members and friends to successfully quit cold turkey. However, you have a good chance of success if you metabolize nicotine slowly because you may not be as physically dependent on nicotine as others./liliSlowly reduce the number of cigarettes. This will only work if you choose a pace that is realistic and that you are comfortable with. For instance, if you smoke two packs a day, don't say that by the end of two weeks you will have stopped. You are most likely setting yourself up for failure in this case. Instead, choosing to smoke one less cigarette a day may be a more realistic goal. Additionally, lighting up your first cigarette of the day, five minutes later each day is another small step to try./liliChange one thing at a time. Most smokers smoke at least some of their daily cigarettes out of habit more than because of an actual craving for a smoke. Raise your awareness of why you are actually lighting up. Ask yourself if you are really craving a cigarette or just lighting up out of habit. Try to cut out the habit cigarettes while continuing to smoke the ones you cannot do without. When you have gotten rid of smoking habit cigarettes, then you can start on the rest. Remember to do this in small steps to have a better chance for success./liliReduce the number of cigarettes that you smoke in certain situations. For example, you may be used to having two cigarettes when you are on a break at work. Instead, slightly delay lighting up the first cigarette and don't smoke the second one at all. This way you are cutting down on your physical dependency in a relatively painless way because it is such a gradual change, as well as smoking less./liliConsider using nicotine substitutes such as gum, spray or patches. These may help because they supply nicotine in ways other than smoking. Nicotine substitutes help smokers kick the smoking habit by allowing a gradual reduction in the amount of nicotine in the body./liliAversion therapy may work where other methods fail. The basic idea is to make smoking so completely unpleasant that you will not want to smoke. For instance, smoking one cigarette after another without pause and smoking until your mouth burns and you feel nauseous is one example of using aversion therapy to stop smoking. This works even better if you do this on a day where you wake up with a headache or have had little sleep./li/ol/ppSo whether you are a heavy smoker or smoke a relatively small amount, finding the right quit smoking method is a personal decision. You may find using a combination of these methods may be even more effective than using a single method. Regardless of the method you choose, the most important thing is your decision to stop smoking./pdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divpIf you have made the decision to stop smoking, find out some of the a rel=nofollow target=_blank href=http://stopsmoking-tips.com/The-Best-Ways-To-Quit-Smoking.htmlbest ways to quit smoking/a/ppGo to a rel=nofollow target=_blank href=http://stopsmoking-tips.com/http://stopsmoking-tips.com/a/pdiv style=clear:both;/divpArticle Source: a rel=nofollow target=_blank href=http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carolyn_Langloishttp://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Carolyn_Langlois/a/p

Smoking is Not Sexy, So Quit Smoking Today!

Written by V Pender on 1/23/2009

div style=clear:both;/divpContrary to what you might have thought when ever you began the habit of smoking - cigarette smoking is not cool, cute or SEXY! There is nothing attractive or appealing about smokers breath, and quite honestly, the way a smokers clothes and hair smells - well, no wonder there is so much mouthwash and fabric freshener available./ppAnother consideration that makes smoking NOT SEXY, cool or cute is the health aspect. If smelling bad is not enough to make you want to quit smoking today, then how about disease and death? Do you ever wonder about how a person ends up in life having to carry oxygen with them, just so they can breathe? Was smoking the cause of their health issues? If so, would you like to ask them how long they smoked and was it worth it? Well, of course, that is really not something you can ask a complete stranger, as it might be considered rude. But, many of us have family members that are suffering from cancer, heart disease or lung disease and breathing problems due to smoking. You might be able to talk to them and see if they would advise you to quit smoking today. Not tomorrow. Do it today!/ppLife is very short, short enough without our making it shorter by bringing on a terrible disease through tobacco related products. There are some things that we can control in our lives and not starting to smoke is one of them. It is so much easier to start than it is to quit. But, if you are a smoker already, then it is time for you to face yourself in the mirror. Get a good magnifying mirror, like a 5x or even better 10x, because you will be able to see the tiny, fine lines and wrinkles that smoking causes. You will age much earlier than you should, as smoking dries out your skin and causes wrinkles around your lips. If you are going to have wrinkles around your lips, get them from puckering up and kissing somebody! Not from wrapping your lips around a filthy cigarette./ppYou can not use the excuse that you can not quit smoking because it is addictive. True, it is an addiction. The tobacco combination used today is not what the cowboys had a hundred years ago or more, when they sat high in the saddle, rolling their own cigarettes with one hand and holding onto the horses reins with the other hand!/ppPlease do not take the attitude that disease and death from cigarette smoking will somehow pass you by. Hopefully, but just in case, why not quit smoking today?/ppThere is help to break this filthy, unhealthy habit. You can find something else to do with your hands! Do IT NOW!/ppQUIT SMOKING TODAY!/pdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divdiv style=clear:both;/divpYour healthy life is truly at risk. Research has shown that smokers who quit at the same time as a good friend or a mate are much more likely to stay permanently off of cigarettes. If you're looking for a reason to stop smoking remind yourself that the smoking habit is harmful not only for yourself but also for the people around you. You are not only adversely affect your lungs and increase your own lung cancer risk, but you also do the same for your children and your spouse and friends. By using the various cessation products on the market today, you can greatly reduce the health risks for yourself and your family.

There are usually several non-profit nicotine cessation support groups available in most urban areas. These groups provide a supportive structure that helps people to quit their habit once and for all. During these support group meetings, members can share their stories with regard to the hardship of giving up and also the negative effects that tobacco has had on their lives. These meetings are helpful as they can provide a little boost for people who are in the middle of trying to stop using tobacco products, and they can mean the difference between a lit cigarette and never lighting up again!

Can I Quit My Tobacco Addiction Using The Stop Smoking Hypnosis Approach?

Written by V Pender on 1/21/2009

Trying to quit smoking may actually be one of the hardest things that an individual will ever attempt to conquer. If quitting "cold turkey" fails, then it may be necessary to try alternative methods and products. Stop smoking hypnosis therapy has been known to work for many people. Hypnosis is the use of the power of suggestion, while being in a deeply relaxed state.

The practitioner performing the hypnosis helps the individual to become completely relaxed so that the subconscious mind may be reached, and hopefully the issues that are bothering the person can be coped with and stopped. Hypnosis can be used to help combat many different types of behaviors; smoking is just one of them.

However, many individuals and physicians are somewhat skeptical of hypnosis as a way of stopping behaviors. This may be because scientific medical evidence proving that hypnosis can help control behaviors is somewhat inconclusive. The brain is a very strange and wondrous part of the body and not everything is known about how it works or how hypnosis affects the subconscious mind.

Stop smoking hypnosis techniques are not necessarily intended to be used by themselves. While it may be absolutely possible for the hypnosis to work on its own, it is more likely to work as part of a stop smoking program. This can mean using hypnosis techniques along with the smoking patch, the nicotine gum or perhaps the nicotine inhaler. These products will help the individual to refrain from using cigarettes, while the hypnotic suggestions will continuously work on the individual's subconscious mind to help them forget about the cravings.

Whether you are a firm believer in hypnosis or you still have a few doubts, looking into stop smoking hypnosis techniques could be your way of kicking the habit forever. Hypnosis has been proven to have a lasting effect on many individuals and helps them kick many different types of habits and unwanted behaviors.

The trick to being able to stop smoking is to find what works for you. If you have tried other types of products and prescriptions, but they have not worked, then hypnosis can be a safe way to finally kick the habit.

How to Quit Smoking Without Fail

Written by V Pender on 1/19/2009

Quitting smoking is a journey many will embark on every year and fail, or at least feel like failures. One thing to remember is that just because you can't quit smoking "cold turkey" or without help does not make you a failure. The success rate of people quitting cold turkey is not that great, and then the percentage of them staying quit is even lower.

So listed next you will find a quick action plan that you can use to quit smoking, you will find quit smoking tips and suggestions, as well as a week by week plan. If you follow this plan, and stay 100% committed to it, your chances of quitting and staying quit are catapulted dramatically.

1. Right down your why(s), knowing why you are quitting is huge. It will keep you focused and on the right track.

2. Tell Your Family and Friends, tell them what you are doing, and ask for their support. They should be enthusiastic about your decision, and keep you positive and support you throughout your entire journey.

3. Get Rid of Everything Smoking, by disposing of things that remind you of smoking you are keeping it further from your mind, and helping the habit part of it go away.

4. Gradually Decrease Your Nicotine Intake, by decreasing your nicotine intake you will be changing the amount of nicotine that your body is expecting everyday.

Week by Week Plan:

Week 1: Do the numbers 1 through 3 listed above

Week 2: Start by figuring out how many cigarettes you smoke daily and decrease that amount by 25% for the entire week. Start a new hobby, exercise, scrap booking, whatever you enjoy.

Week 3: Now decrease your nicotine intake another 25% from the previous week. Make it a point that every time you get a craving to go work on your hobby, go for a walk, etc.

Week 4: Decrease the amount another 25%. You should be feeling a lot better by now, with taking in a lot less nicotine, one more thing for this week, only smoke on either odd or even hours of the day, while smoking 25% less than you did last week. Continue your hobby, and get some healthy snacks. Now with the cravings, work on your hobby and start eating healthier.

Week 5: This is the final week, no smoking this week. This week will not be as hard as you think it will. By continuing to work on your hobby and eating the healthy snacks, you could also add eating healthy meals, it will make this final week very easy and successful.

Remember a relapse is not a failure, only a bump in the road. Continue to push forward, and you will prevail. There is nothing wrong with seeking help, there are plenty of programs out there to help you be successful, don't be ashamed of using them.

Stop Smoking Quickly and Naturally

Written by V Pender on 1/19/2009

If you have ever tried to change a habit, or give up an addiction then you know the difficulty that is in store for you when you decide to stop smoking. It doesn't help to see so many other people try and fail time and time again. Not to mention if you have tried and failed in the past yourself.

Well you know as well as I do that it can be done. People quit smoking each and everyday. Some do have relapses, but continue to push through, and over time do prevail. There are so many products out there that are supposed to help you quit smoking, the choices are over whelming. Some products can harm your health, cause you physical pain, make you nauseas, and put quite a strain on your bank account. What I can tell you is that the best and most natural way to quit is using your own will power, which is by far the most difficult method to do.

It doesn't take a lot of money to quit on your own, but it does take the will to want it. So, do you want to quit? If so, who do you want to quit for? The most important thing to know is that you are quitting for you and you alone. Sure it will benefit your family and friends, but the most important person to quit for is you.

Another thing to know is that it takes action. It takes action now, not later. So many people will say "I will quit Monday" or may set a new years resolution. But the best thing to do is quit now. Set up a plan to stop smoking today. Set a goal, you don't have to quit overnight, which in fact isn't healthy anyway. Quitting cold turkey could but your body into a state of shock and do more harm then good. Set a stop smoking date, and work your way backward setting smaller goals along the way.

If possible limit the time you spend with other smokers. At first maybe just be a social smoker, only smoking when you are hanging out with smokers will decrease the amount of nicotine your body takes in, and will jump start your stop smoking plan.

Five Reasons Why People Should Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/17/2009

In this article I am going to write about the reasons why I believe people should stop smoking. I hope it proves to be an inspiration for many people who are potentially thinking of quitting these cancer sticks once and for all. Smoking does and will have a negative impact on your life if of course you continue with this nasty habit, therefore it is definately worth starting to look for the best ways to quit smoking.

I have to admit that I used to be a smoker, I was never on lets say twenty a day but was more of what people would call a social smoker. I would at that point find it very difficult to go out with my friends for a few beers without being able to smoke etc. It actually would be something that I would look forward to and at the stage I had no real reasons as to why I should not do it. After a hard and stressful week at work there was nothing better than the thought of having a pint of lager with a cigarette to go with it.

The problem started to occur when I began to buy packs of ten cigarettes in the week to take to work with me. In my mind I had thought that to smoke at work would give me the same type of pleasure that smoking did whilst drinking etc. I felt very let down when I realised that it just was not the same but for whatever reason I continued to buy and smoke them.

My colleagues at work started to comment on the fact that I was smoking and stated that my clothes really stunk of cigarettes. People in my opinion started to treat me differently, it was like I was a second class citizen. I decided that I needed to stop smoking for these and other reasons, especially as I did not really enjoy it that much apart from when I was in a bar of course.

I stopped smoking for five main reasons:

1. To save money as a packet of cigarettes costs a lot of money.

2. I did not like my clothes smelling of cigarettes.

3. Health reasons, smoking is the cause of many health problems including cancer.

4. Smoking can be a big turn off to women. I found it hard enough to meet and attract women and to give them another reason not to like me was just being stupid.

5. I wanted to be classed as a non-smoker as I felt that I was been treated like some sort of loser when I was a smoker.

It was not easy to quit smoking but it is certainly worth while, why not give it a go, you may well surprise yourself.

Ways to Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Written by V Pender on 1/17/2009

If you're a smoker, and ever tried to stop, you know there are many ways to stop smoking. Really, there are many ways to try and stop smoking. But how many really work to help you quit smoking? If you are reading this today, I am guessing that you were not successful, and are still looking for ways to stop smoking.

Some people say it's easy to stop smoking. And go on to say how many times they have already quit. But unless you can quit smoking for good, you have not mastered quiting smoking.

Many of you may have already heard of hypnosis, and how it is used to help people stop smoking. But you may have written it off as another one of those methods designed to take your money, but could never work on you. And I felt the same way until I learned more about hypnosis.

Hypnosis is described as an induced state, in which you, the subject is responsive to suggestions. That is the premise of hypnosis. It is to draw out of you, your own capabilities and strengths.

Face it, there are obstacles to achieving your highest potential. Perhaps along the way someone told you that you were not good enough, or maybe the addictive elements of smoking have made it nearly impossible for you to quit.

If you want to quit smoking, lose weight, or have the confidence to go after the perfect job? Whatever it is that you feel could make you a better, happier, and a more productive person. It is all within you because believe it or not, you set your own limitations.

Many people say they can't be hypnotized. These people have been misinformed probably by the public, about what hypnosis really is and what it is not. It is not necessary to be in some sort of a deep, deep trance to be in hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state which everyone moves in and out of throughout the day. Many of our everyday normal activities are actually performed under hypnosis without us even being aware of it.

Hypnosis can change the way you think about yourself and even change your physical health and appearance through directed hypnotic methods. You can have more confidence, lose weight, or yes, even stop smoking after just 3 weeks of daily hypnosis.

After you decide on what program is best for you, and you commit to 3 weeks, you can let the process begin. Hypnosis holds the key to reprogramming your subconscious mind to quit smoking permanently. After 3 weeks, you will no longer be looking for ways to stop smoking. Because you will have found the one way that actually works.

After you find out how simple it was for you, you will want to use hypnosis to change your life in other ways as well.

Larry Buhrandt would like you to feel the benefits of giving up smoking for good through the process of hypnosis. Read More About Hypnosis and how it can change your life.

How to Quit Smoking Today Without Gaining Weight Tomorrow

Written by V Pender on 1/15/2009

There are so many of us out there that want to quit smoking, but we worry about gaining weight if we do. Anyone that has tried to quit knows that you usually end up eating or snacking more. Then we get aggravated because we've gained weight. Adding that to the many difficulties we face when trying to be smoke free often leads us to relapse.

I have found there are ways to quit smoking without putting on extra pounds, but first, I must say, we really need to put this in perspective. Many worry about those few extra pounds so much that they don't quit. So it's more important to our society to be the "ideal" weight" then it is to quit something that causes many health problems and illnesses including cancer? When you look at it that way, does it make any sense? Never the less, we still do it.

So, when trying to quit, stock up on healthy snacks. Then when you feel you need a snack to replace that cigarette, you'll have something good for you on hand. Granola bars, sugar free Popsicles, and fruit are all good choices.

Also, try exercising when you have a nicotine craving. For instance, you feel a craving coming on so you take a walk or use your treadmill. This not only is healthy, but it will keep you busy and release endorphins. So you will feel better without touching a cigarette or junk food.

Another thing I have found that really does help is deep breathing. When you have the urge to smoke, stop and breathe. Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and re-focus. Try not to think about smoking as something you need to do. Instead think of all the negatives of smoking; the health risks, the smell, the damage it does to your teeth. Most cravings only last for 3 minutes at the most. It's your conscious mind that makes it seem to last longer. When you take some deep breaths and get your mind on other things, you will find that you didn't want that cigarette after all. Again, you got through it with no suckers, candy, or snacks.

It is also very helpful to some to meditate when that "need" creeps up on us. This is just a more elaborate version of the deep breathing. Sit somewhere quiet, light some candles or incense, close your eyes, and take deep breaths. You may even try playing some relaxing music if it helps. Some also use yoga as a method of relaxing in place of meditating, but we are all different. So find what works for you and stick with it.

The basics of this are just to get your mind off the craving without using foods or snacks as a substitute. Relax, re-focus, and breathe. These are just a few suggestions that may help. Find whatever works to relax you and re-focus your thoughts. Then when you're smoke free, you will have done it without putting on one extra pound.

The Big Secret to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/15/2009

If it has come to crunch time and you have made the decision that you are going to give up smoking for good - then don't give up, stick with it! Willpower and motivation is half the battle when it comes to being a non smoker.

When it comes to giving up cigarettes you are probably thinking that you need a trip to the pharmacy for some stop smoking aids. You are probably worried about the cost of these nicotine replacement aids as the gums and patches available on the market are quite expensive. It is estimated that the total cost per year on stop smoking aids is 1 million dollars. However despite the number of costly aids that are available there are still many people that have tried to give up the habit but are still smoking upwards of 20 a day. It is true that this is largely down to nicotine and the hold it has on you but a lot of it is also down to habit it has an emotional hold on you as well as the physical addiction.

If you have ever paid attention to the times you smoke you will notice a pattern - Most people light up when they are stressed or bored, or when they have finished eaten. This has a minimal amount to do with actually needing more nicotine and more to do with the fact that you are used to smoking in these times. It is a force of habit and what you need to do is break this pattern in order to give yourself a high chance at being a successful quitter.

For a majority of people, smoking a cigarette is something they do when they are unoccupied and need to do something with their hands. One great way of fighting against this is to keep busy, next time you feel yourself wanting to reach of a cigarette, do something else instead - knitting, painting or something else you enjoy in order to take your mind off of wanting to smoke. When you feel a craving try breathing slowly for two minutes. More often than not even the worst of cravings rarely last longer than 2 minutes.

Once you have taken the wise decision to stop smoking smoke your last cigarette and then throw the rest of them away. Any remaining cigarettes within your reach will be too much of a temptation for you. You can also try taking sips of water or a healthy snack to manage cravings.

You are the secret to your own success in being a non smoker for life. You need to concentrate on both your nicotine dependence and the power of habit as both of these together give you the temptation to fall off the wagon and pick up a cigarette. If you can take both of these things on board, you can beat your addiction much easier than you would have thought possible. Good luck!

I am happy to say that after being virtually chain smokers my husband and myself both gave up smoking 12 years or more ago!

We set up our own website in the hope that we will be able to help a few other people quit their own smoking habits and in the process save their health and some $'s.

Reasons to Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/14/2009

In this article, I write about the reasons why I decided to quit smoking. I feel that it is important that you have a number of good reasons as to why you want to stop smoking, as this will help you to get through the great number of cravings that you will no doubt have. I hope this article proves to be of inspiration and can help other people to cut cigarettes out of their lives once and for all.

When different governments around the world have attempted to convince people to stop smoking, they always seem to go down the health route. It could be by showing a man who is dying of cancer for example. I knew about all of the health risks that were involved with smoking but I still did it. This was because in my own mind these health problems were unlikely to really start affecting me for around thirty years. I used to say to myself that there is a good chance that I will not be alive in thirty years time and that I should live for today. I would also try to convince myself that if I do live for another thirty years that there is a good chance that they will have found a cure for cancer by that point. When I decided to stop smoking, health was one of the reasons why I wanted to quit, but it was by no means the main reason.

The main reason was without doubt financial. The price of a packet of twenty cigarettes in the UK has rocketed upwards over the last few years. It is not that I can not afford to continue buying them, it is that I would rather spend the money on other things such as clothes or a holiday. I have worked out that I save over a thousand pounds a year by no longer smoking. This for me is a lot of money and was what I always thought of when the demons in my head were trying to convince me to smoke just one last cigarette.

There were of course other reasons why I wanted to stop smoking. These include the amount they make your clothes smell, the amount they make your house smell, the affect they have on your teeth, the fact that most women find smoking a turn off and the sheer dependency that one can get from cigarettes. For example I feel a bit stressed, I must therefore have a cigarette. I am drinking coffee, therefore I must smoke a cigarette.

It was very very hard to stop smoking cigarettes but all of the effort is more than worth it.

Why is it Good to Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/14/2009

The US Surgeon-General calls it 'the largest preventable cause of death in America'.Without doubt, smoking is one of the most dangerous habits in which we indulge. the number of deaths a year worldwide due to smoking is not precisely known, but undoubtedly runs into tens of thousands. It has been calculated that a male cigarette smoker who dies as a result of his smoking loses a average of 15 years of life. The male smoker who dies of coronary heart disease will lose an average of nearly 20 years- the difference between dying at 50 and dying at 70.

At least 25 per cent of all deaths from coronary heart disease are estimated to be caused by smoking, and 90 per cent of all deaths from lung cancer and chronic bronchitis. An objection occasionally made to these statistics is that they suggest a connection between smoking and illness but do not prove it. But the connection is too close for coincidence.Lung cancer, for instance, is extremely rare in non-smokers and was virtually unknown at the beginning of the century before cigarette smoking had become widespread.

In addition, experiments have shown that the tarry residue of burned cigarette tobacco can produce skin cancer. Even more convincing, examination of lung tissue from smokers, non-smokers and ex-smokers shows progressive changes in the cells, which reverse when a person stops smoking.

Heavy cigarette smokers are at greatest risk. Pipe and cigar smokers occasionally get lip and mouth cancer, but their risk of getting lung cancer, bronchitis or coronaty heart disease is only about half that of cigarette smokers. This is thought to be because people who smoke only pipes or cigars do not inhale as much as cigarette smokers. If this is true, it still cannot be said that pipe and cigar smoking is safe. It would depend on how the pipe or cigars are smoke.

Heavy smokers are more likely to die of lung cancer, bronchitis or heart disease than light smokers. People who smoke one to 14 cigarettes a day run eight times the risk of dying of lung cancer as non-smokers. Meduim smokers (15-24) run 13 times the risk, and heavy smokers(25 or more a day) 25 times the risk. Unfortunately, it does not follow that you can reduce your risk by cutting down. The important factor is the amount of smoke that goes into the lungs. Recent research shows that when they cut down, some smokers tend to compensate by inhaling more smoke from each cigarette. To the lungs, ten cigarettes a day at 20 puffs per cigarette is the same as 20 cigarettes a day at ten puffs per cigarette.

The Quit Smoking Swear Box

Written by V Pender on 1/13/2009

There are many people who are attempting to quit smoking. This article gives free tips on how you can kick the habit and to stop smoking those cancer sticks once and for all. I hope you enjoy the read.

When I was a teenager I clearly remember one of my teachers introducing a swear box at school. The concept, which I am sure you will be aware of, is quite simple. If you swear you have to put a certain amount of money in the box. At first people found it quite amusing and thought the idea was a bit of a joke. After having to put quite a lot of money into this box in the first few days of the project, I soon realised that it would be a lot cheaper if I could learn to control my tongue. Such a simple idea had a big impact on the school and at the same time taught me a huge lesson.

There are many reasons as to why people should stop smoking. Without doubt the most important is your health however a lot of people have a strange attitude to their own health despite hearing of many people dying from cancer related illnesses. They think that it will not happen to them or that by the time they get old, that a cure will have been found. They make comments such as, I could die in a car crash tomorrow anyway.

Over the last number of years we have seen regular government advertising campaigns to convince people to quit smoking. These are becoming more and more shocking and hard hitting, however people still do not listen.

What people do seem to care about, probably too much in my opinion, is money. Despite ever increasing tax raises on cigarettes people still continue to buy them. My idea is to keep a record of how many cigarettes you smoke per week and also how much it cost you to buy them. Then times the figure by fifty-two and that will be the amount you spend on cigarettes per year. How happy would you be if your boss offered you an increase to your wages of that amount? This is the reality as that is the increase in available money you would have per year. Just think about what you could spend that money on.

So we have now decided to quit smoking cigarettes once and for all. It is not going to be easy however. You will need to battle the demons in your head, who will be trying to convince you to have just one more. Going back to the swear box idea from before, it can be just as effective in any stop smoking program. It is likely that you will bow to temptation and every time you smoke one cigarette you put the equivalent cost of one whole packet in the swear box as way of punishment. The proceeds from the box could be given to a charity of your choice. This is you continue to let your demons win, will soon be hitting you hard in the pocket and hopefully will then convince you to stop.

I wish you every success in your quest to stop smoking.

Three Reasons For You to Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/13/2009

In 1604, King James I wrote a hauntingly prophetic polemic called 'A Counterblaste to Tobacco'. In it, he wrote about his hate for tobacco smoke, which he claimed to harm the brain and endanger the lungs. As a result, he imposed a higher tariff on every pound of tobacco brought into the country and urged his subjects of the court to stop smoking. Unfortunately, it took medical science 500 years to agree with him.

It has been scientifically proven that smoking may cause various health problems to yourself and the people around you. If you're not convinced, here are a few more reasons why you should stop smoking:

1) Ingredients involved. The components involved when making cigarettes is enough for some people to stop smoking. There are over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 carcinogenic (cancer-causing) compounds and 400 toxins (tar, arsenic, DDT), that constitute a stick of cigarette. These compounds are well-known for their effect on the human body. Although these substances are present in minuscule amounts, it can accumulate to more if you're a long-term heavy smoker.

2) Health hazards. The nicotine-filled smoke that you inhale will penetrate deep within your lungs via your air passages, making them constrict and causing difficulties in breathing. The smoke also reaches your brain in a mere 7 seconds, greatly improving the chances of a stroke. Aside from that, you'll be exposed to a multitude of carcinogens which may cause cancer of the lungs and esophagus. It also vastly decreases your fitness level and stamina.

3) Endangers your surroundings. By smoking, you not only endanger yourself, but also the people around you via secondhand smoke. Secondhand smokers have a 70% more chance of succumbing to lung cancer than you. The smoke you exhale has a potent amount of toxins to cause harm to your loved ones. In addition to that, it contributes to air pollution and to a lesser extent, global warming.

If you stop smoking now, you'll see your skin become clearer and more hydrated after a month. After 6 months, you'll be able to breathe easier and after a year you'll have a 50% less chance of getting heart diseases. So, what are you waiting for? Stub that cig now!

Quit Smoking Patches Or Pills - Can They Work For You?

The first aid that people think of when attempting to quit smoking is the quit smoking pill. Why? Well, in America and pretty much all over the world, taking medications or vitamins is a pill taking action. This route of administration surpasses all others because it is convenient and easy to do. If you are one of the millions that have a sensitive gage reflex, and you need to use a quit smoking pill like Zyban and Chantix, they may not work for you.

Zyban is a very popularly sold quit smoking pill. It originally was used only for symptoms of depression and doctors discovered that the majority of their patients were also able to use it to quit smoking for good. This was awesome!

Chantix on the other hand is not at all operational, on the same mechanism as Zyban. Chantix according to their literature works by blocking nicotine from hitting the nicotine receptors. They say this leads the smoker to decrease their use of smoking over time and ultimately they quit. There reported success rate is 44% but there seems to be some debate about that figure in the medical community.

What you can reach for next if you cannot swallow a pill or tolerate it are the quit smoking patches. The patches work on the common theory that giving your body gradually lowered amounts of nicotine over time will decrease the cravings and ultimately you'll quit smoking. This works for a ton of people. You should give it a try to, especially if you cannot swallow a pill. All you need to do is apply the patch to some part of your body and you are off. No need for water and struggling to swallow a pill.

The availability of the patch may be without a prescription in some parts of the world. Or if you live in the U.S. you may need a prescription from your health care provider licensed to dispense medication.

No matter which route you take, you will have to have the right mental attitude. That is, you've got to have will power to make any of these therapies work for you. The days of just taking a medication and doing nothing to help it along, are over. Your mind is so powerful that you may be able to quit smoking without any aids at all. I don't advise that tactic though. You should really strive to surround yourself with a very supportive group. This always makes what you are attempting to achieve much easier.

There is a therapy that involves CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This makes using your mind to quit smoking a snap. You can use CBT with or without quit smoking patches or pills. Using CBT results in NO side effects from drugs because you won't use any at all. All you need to do is read this resource and get going.

Learn the Best Way to Quit Smoking For Good

Written by V Pender on 1/12/2009

The recent hurricane that hit the Texas coast in 2008 was horrific. In spite of the massive winds, only one home was left standing in an entire area as far as the eye could see. This home represents the best way to quit smoking...by will power alone and a few non-medical helps.

When it comes to quitting smoking for good it is going to take a lot of mental effort. This resistance is just character building. It requires you to stretch yourself to achieve your target of being smoke free. Though this is quite easy to think of you should really note that the psychological aspects are really what kick a person into being a non-smoker or not.

It is not the pills. It is not the nicotine gum. It is not the therapist you see. Or the doctor for that matter. When you finally quit smoking it will because you've DECIDED to quit.

When you consider the valuable helps that can assist you in resolving to quit smoking there is no reason why you should not be the one to quit right now. Get some research going. Learn what your doctor may consider using. I bet it will be a pill. Zyban and Chantix are both good solid treatments in this market. But with each chemical comes a host of different side effects or adverse events. Some people feel it is a bother to add something to their lives that has the potential of making them feel dry mouth, nervousness, excitation, and so on. You can easily check the labels of these drugs by going to

The path to smoking cessation is one with many twists and turns. So, understand that you should have some support for your goal here. Support can come in the form of family and friends who have quit. It's important to understand that getting support from someone that already smokes is not wise. They will be sort of jealous and may not support you whole heartedly. Why? Because you are doing something they wish they had the courage to do. But haven't brought themselves to the point of getting into action the way you have.

One supportive activity involves using anything that does not introduce harmful side effects to your system. You could get involved with hypnosis and other methods that actually interrupt the nerve transmission which leads to smoking.

Here we know that hypnosis is popular in many other activities. Even some dentist use these principles to get children and adult patients to relax and calm down before doing dental procedures. No it does not eliminate the need for local anaesthetics but because some people due to health concerns cannot take anesthetics. This is a viable opportunity.

You to can use a stop smoking hypnosis CD to achieve similar results. That is results that do not come with side effects.

Also, the use of low frequency laser beams in smoking cessation is gaining in popularity. What happens with the lasers is completely safe. You would have a licensed laser therapist stimulate the nerve pathways and in essence interrupt their transmission. This interruption decreases your urge to smoke. Especially useful is this technique when you are in the first few days of your quitting campaign. If you can last 48 hours after starting you are home free. This first 48 hours is when the urge to smoke is greatest.

There you have it. The best way to quit smoking is not by taking more drugs. But if you do you can learn more by viewing he links we've included above.

Conversational Hypnosis Case Study Stop Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/11/2009

I found this article review of an interesting Book by Alex Robinson called "Too cool to be Forgotten" on the The School Library Journal Website.

What struck me the most about the article was the fact that the review was written by Grade 10 school student and is remarkably inciteful.

The Article

Robinson is back with a concise gem that packs just as much punch as his
lengthier titles. The premise here is nothing groundbreaking: Andy Wicks, a middle-aged family man, goes to a hypnosis clinic to break a 25-year smoking habit. As he mocks the ordeal as "mumbo jumbo," he is suddenly transformed into his 15-year-old self.
With a 40-something mind still intact, he is forced to relive the horrors of
algebra class, visits to the principal, elaborate social hierarchies, and, of course, intense sexual frustration.

What makes Too Cool to be Forgotten remarkable is the author's ability to
revisit high school drama and reality bending in a lighthearted way yet with a depth and thoughtfulness that consistently underscore the plot. Robinson never trivializes adolescent angst. Instead, Andy's journey allows him to explore and understand the complex psychology behind his coming-of-age choices and behavior.

That he has lived to see the results adds a compelling twist. Readers will gain perspective on mortality, family relationships, compassion, and love among bikini posters, gum-infested lockers, and family TV nights. As usual, Robinson's portraits perfectly underscore the intricacies of emotion in the story line, from the awkwardness of goofy permed-out and barely mustachioed teens to the anxiety of aging fathers with worry lines. Further, the artist's use of white pace, page composition, and flexible panels create a compelling sense of movement and a satisfying sense of flow.

Teens are sure to have a lot of fun with the book.

I don't know about you, but the review made me keen to read the book.

If you would like a copy of the book you can get from Amazon at less than $10.

Top Reasons to Quit Smoking, and One Method to Quit

Written by V Pender on 1/11/2009

I'll quit when I'm good and ready to quit. If you've ever thought about or actually tried to quit smoking, that's likely a phrase you've uttered either aloud or to yourself. What you might not know is that that is one of the keys to being successful when trying to quit smoking - wanting to quit.

Or maybe you've not given it much thought before. If not, that's a shame. While the reasons to stop smoking are numerous, here are some that should be high on your list when considering quitting cigarettes altogether. It's not a comprehensive list, but we'll have a solution for that at the end. Start at the beginning, though, knowing why you should want to quit.

Health

Cigarettes cause cancer! It's written on the packaging! I'm not sure whether everyone thinks about it all the time, but sooner or later most people start thinking about their health. Whether they're younger and tired of already feeling old or older and about to realize that their bodies won't last forever.

For too many reasons to list here, cigarettes are bad for your health. This should be on the top of your list as an overall reason to quit smoking. Remember that that's the first step - gathering enough information so that you want to quit.

Wealth

Cigarettes aren't cheap! You might be made of money, but if you're like most people in these unsure economic times, money is tight. Cigarettes can be a big drain on your money. Sometimes when you buy a pack or a carton at a time you don't realize how much they're adding up over time, especially if, like most people, you gradually need more and more nicotine and start to smoke more.

Try to add up how much you spend each week on cigarettes some time. Then multiply that number by 52 for the number of weeks in a year. You might be shocked at how much you're spending each year on cigarettes. If you stopped smoking, how else could you spend that money?

Family

Not everyone has close friends and family, but most people on this planet would be missed by other people if they die. And smoking cigarettes leads to death. You can't quit for other people, but you should take them into consideration as a reason to quit.

One Method to Quit Smoking

What if there was a guide that compiled a lot of great information and tips for quitting smoking - would you be interested? Getting help for a tough task like quitting smoking isn't a dumb idea that makes you weak. Seeking help means you're serious about quitting.

If you understand the reasons above and are ready to quit smoking, click here. Doing so will lead you to one solution that will help you quit smoking. Ways to Stop Smoking - Stop Smoking Tips and Programs

Written by V Pender on 1/10/2009

Ways and tip to stop smoking: Smoking isn't just hard on your body - it is dangerous for anyone living or working around you. When you stop, you'll typically see an overall improvement in your health. Sometimes, that is easier said than done, though. Many smokers have tried unsuccessfully to stop smoking in the past, but if you're really dedicated, you can try the following tips and programs to help you beat cigarettes!

One of the best ways to do this is to talk to your doctor. Patches, pills, chewing gums, and other medications can help you quit without looking back. Cold turkey doesn't work for everyone, but that doesn't mean that you've failed. With your doctor and a little patience, you can slowly cut back on your smoking until you've quit completely. Although you may have heard about many of the common medical programs used to stop smoking, there are also some experimental new treatments that have helped many people find success.

For example, have you talked to your doctor about the laser treatment? Lasers stimulate the skin, releasing the same endorphins in the brain that are released when you smoke. Laser helps eliminate the urge to smoke -- and it also boosts your metabolism, which can stop you from gaining weight, a common problem for smokers trying to quit.

Other ways to quit smoking that you might want to explore include shots. These shots block certain receptors in the brain that make you want nicotine. The exact medication involved in a stop smoking shot vary according to your needs, but in general, these shots have succeeded as a quitting tips to many people who eventually give up cigarettes for good.

There are also non-medical ways to this - some of which you might know about already. Others are unique solutions that many never consider! Here are some great tips that might help you:

• Spend more time with your family. You already know that second hand smoke is bad, so when you are around your children or adult non-smokers it will help motivate you to avoid lighting up.

• Don't fall back into smoking even if you make a mistake. Everyone has bad days, but one cigarette does not mean that you have failed. Stay on your program, even if you have a small misstep.

• Avoid stress. Smoking helps calm your nerves, but if your nerves don't need to be calmed, you'll have less of a reason to smoke.

• Find a walking partner or jogging partner. Try to schedule your runs or walks during a time of day that you typically have a cigarette.

• Stay away from places that sell cigarettes, like convenience stores. Don't give yourself an opportunity to buy them.

You don't always need medical help to stop smoking, but when you are ready to make this change in your life, it is important to talk to your doctor. Even without the shot, laser, or other programs, your body can experience side effects like tremors and headaches. Your doctor can help you treat this withdrawal without resorting to lighting up again. With a little help, you can quit smoking!

Discover the Shot to Quit Smoking

Written by V Pender on 1/10/2009

Maybe you are one of millions of smokers who have tried a variety of programs just to find yourself once again reaching for that pack of smokes and lighting up. If that is the case, maybe you should consider trying the shot to quit smoking.

Although the method is relatively new, less than 10 years old, studies have shown some favorable results. Granted, as we all know numbers can be manipulated to say anything we want. In a recent study conducted by the Welplex Clinic of Tampa, Florida, 200 smokers were treated with the shot and then followed for a period of one year. At the end of the test, the results of those who remained smoke free were close to 80 percent. Impressive results don't you think?

Now granted, this test was subjective to this particular clinic but the results do seem to be encouraging. As you well know, when you approach any type of quit smoking program, always be sure to do enough research to have all your questions answered up front.

One of the most frequently asked questions is "How does the shot to quit smoking really work?"

Without boring you with all the scientific terms, the shot is designed to block the nicotine receptors in your brain to help prevent the cravings you endure when you stop smoking. The most common drugs used are scopolamine, atarax and atropine. Don't worry, all have been FDA approved and are strictly regulated.

Many clinics will also offer counseling and ongoing support to keep you on the smoke free path. Another factor to consider is the type of guarantee each program provides. This can range anywhere from one year to a lifetime guarantee.

Most clinics will also provide you with prescription medication to be used as part of the follow up procedure.

Another aspect you also need to consider with a program of this type is whether or not your insurance carrier will reimburse the expenses. Most clinics at this time do not accept assignment of insurance, although they will provide you with itemized statements for you to submit to your carrier. So again, do your homework up front.

The bottom line is simple; you want to stop smoking, Right? Take the time and look at the benefits the shot to stop smoking offers. This may finally be a program that puts you back on the path to living a smoke free life and that really is all that matters.

I am happy to say that after being virtually chain smokers my husband and myself both gave up smoking 12 years or more ago!
